Decontamination Technician Role

This is a key position within our healthcare facility, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and infection control.

You will be involved in cleaning and reprocessing Reusable Invasive Medical Devices (RIMDs) across all areas of the hospital, adhering to HSE National Standards for RIMD reprocessing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning and preparing equipment, including trolleys, storage shelves, autoclaves, gas plasma sterilisers, washer/disinfectors, and other machinery as required.
  • Preparing packs for theatres, wards, and other departments as necessary.
  • Cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilising RIMDs according to department procedures.
  • Maintaining stock levels, restocking shelves with sterile supplies and non-sterile items, and assisting with inventory management.
  • Recording and inspecting processed devices, distributing them to their respective destinations.
  • Operating mechanical processing equipment and handling raw materials.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Completion of a Decontamination Course and prior experience in a comparable healthcare environment are also essential.
  • FETAC Level 6 Decontamination qualification and experience working in a decontamination/sterilisation unit in a similar-sized hospital are desirable.
