Support Worker Role

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to join our team in Cavan and contribute to the delivery of trauma-informed care for young people aged 13-17 years.

You will work as part of a dedicated team delivering holistic, trauma-informed care to young people, with responsibilities including working with children, household activities, administration, teamwork, professional development, and health and safety.

Job Overview:

  • Develop and implement Care Plans, ensuring accurate recording and effective service delivery.
  • Promote the rights and responsibilities of each child/young person, ensuring their needs are met and respected.
  • Foster physical, emotional, social, and religious well-being in young people in care, creating a safe and supportive environment.
  • Encourage attendance at school, training centers, medical appointments, and other essential activities.
  • Organize personal documents, arrangements, information, and finances on behalf of the young person, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Liaise with parents, family, services, and agencies on behalf of the young person, building positive relationships and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Attend meetings related to care and development, contributing to decision-making processes and service improvement.
  • Engage in age-appropriate play and activities with each child/young person, promoting their physical, emotional, and social development.
  • Use physical intervention in accordance with local policies and procedures, prioritizing de-escalation techniques and minimizing conflict.
  • Promote participation in decision-making processes affecting their lives, empowering young people to take control of their futures.
  • Prepare and provide balanced meals in conjunction with young people, teaching healthy eating habits and meal planning skills.
  • Manage home upkeep, budgeting, and cleaning, maintaining a safe and comfortable living environment.
  • Attend team meetings and report to the Service Manager on matters affecting service delivery, contributing to continuous improvement and quality assurance.
  • Submit written and verbal reports on the progress of young people, tracking achievements and identifying areas for development.
  • Ensure Child Protection procedures are followed, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all individuals.
  • Stay updated on current legislation and childcare knowledge, applying best practices and evidence-based interventions.
  • Undertake ongoing professional training and development, enhancing skills and expertise to deliver high-quality care.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications in Social Care or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with complex needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build rapport with young people, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing situations, prioritizing the needs of young people and the service.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection procedures and policies, with commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Physical ability to engage in physical intervention and manual handling, with willingness to undertake training and development in this area.
