Pharmacy Technician Job Description

Job Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician is a key member of our pharmacy team, responsible for supporting the Managing Pharmacist in the dispensary. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a high level of proactivity, and the ability to work independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, record, and assemble prescriptions accurately, issue receipts, and inform Pharmacists of any changes in drug therapy or interactions between prescribed medications.
  • Serve customers over the counter medicines and other pharmacy products as required.
  • Fulfill requests for specific over the counter medicines using WWHAM questioning and recommend suitable medicines referring to the Pharmacist when necessary.
  • Maintain computer records, ensure paperwork is up-to-date, and follow Company procedures.
  • Address errors or safety issues promptly with the Managing Pharmacist and/or Business Territory Manager.
  • Ensure smooth running of the dispensary, including stock rotation, maintaining appropriate stock levels, using correct suppliers, and verifying delivery details set by the Managing Pharmacist.
  • Keep the Pharmacy clean and tidy, addressing Health and Safety issues promptly with the Pharmacy Manager and/or Managing Pharmacist.
  • Follow Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures, maintaining consistent professional standards at all times.
  • Assist with over the counter sales and other front-of-counter duties.
  • Perform any additional tasks as required.

Leadership and Teamwork:

  • Support other stakeholders within the pharmacy and throughout the Allcare Network to deliver company goals.
  • Work proactively and take initiative.
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues, customers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in staff training programs and implementation, developing the role function.
  • Maintain good working relationships between colleagues, customers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Work effectively as part of the Pharmacy team, being flexible and adaptable.

Customer Focus:

  • Deliver customer service to the highest quality, providing advice and information as required on product ranges available in the Pharmacy.
  • Provide professional and efficient customer service at all times, enhancing relationships with Pharmacy Customers.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • IPU Pharmacy Technician course or Higher Certificate in Pharmacy Technician Studies.
  • 2 years' experience in a pharmacy technician role, preferable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to multi-task successfully in a busy environment.
  • Cashier experience advantageous.
  • Ability to use discretion when addressing customer queries and treat customer/patient information with confidentiality.
  • IT skills advantageous.
