Our client seeks a seasoned Direct Materials Buyer to join their team. A bachelor's degree in business, procurement, supply chain management or engineering is required, along with at least 4 years of experience in direct materials procurement within an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a proven commercial mindset and the ability to assess and manage business agreements with suppliers. They must be skilled in negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships and driving cost reduction initiatives.

The buyer will be responsible for purchasing all direct materials to support production operations and spare parts service, in line with business requirements. This will involve maximising the use of supplier scheduling and lean supply models to minimise inventory levels.

The buyer will also be expected to liaise with suppliers to ensure continuity of material supply and provide timely updates to internal stakeholders on any issues affecting supply. They will monitor key metrics such as supplier delivery, inventory, cost, quality and service, and drive corrective actions where performance falls below agreed target levels.

Additionally, the buyer will maintain and update supplier and material master data to ensure the integrity of the planning and purchasing processes.

Required skills include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, procurement, supply chain management or engineering
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in direct materials procurement within an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
  • Proven commercial mindset and ability to assess and manage business agreements with suppliers
  • Negotiation and contract management skills
  • Supplier relationship management and cost reduction expertise
