Job Description

The Hotel Duty Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all areas within the hotel, maintaining high standards of service delivery and cleanliness. Key responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with Heads of Department (HODs) to ensure sufficient staffing levels.
  • Maintaining the agreed standard of operation in all areas and addressing any discrepancies with relevant HODs.
  • Being operationally responsible for service delivery and standards throughout the entire building during duty hours.

In addition, the Hotel Duty Manager is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all signage throughout the building is up-to-date, correctly displayed, and professionally maintained.
  • Patrolling the building at regular intervals to check cleanliness, both inside and outside.
  • Verifying that fire exits are free from obstruction and in proper working order.
  • Leading the team in the event of a fire alarm or pre-alarm scenario.
  • Maintaining a lobby presence during peak check-in/out times, lunchtime, and peak tea/coffee times.
  • Ensuring back-of-house areas are clean and properly maintained.
  • Attending daily team briefings to cover business and provide feedback.
  • Implementing a comprehensive handover system to inform the Manager on Duty about VIPs, complaints, special requests, function business, and AOB.
  • Caring for requisitions outside of store hours, completing necessary documentation.
  • Dealing with Salto Wristband loss incidents in conjunction with the General Manager.
  • Daily spot-checking guest bedrooms.
  • Maintaining public areas according to agreed standards.
  • Handling complaints calmly, organized, and discreetly, ensuring complete service recovery.
  • Participating in and conducting training as required.
  • Compiling, recording, and storing necessary Duty Management documentation.
  • Conducting show-rounds as needed.
  • Assisting with booking out guests to hotels when necessary.
