Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Infrastructure Security Engineer to join our fast-paced Security team. In this role, you will focus on securing our cloud infrastructure and assisting in the detection and incident response efforts across our AWS and GCP environments.

As a key member of the Security team, you will contribute to Instacart's security posture and engineering culture. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of security initiatives and grow their career in a cross-functional environment.

Our platform is complex, rapidly scaling, and processes millions of transactions in real-time. We value engineers who can work independently with minimal guidance, collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, and proactively drive security improvements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain security controls for our AWS and GCP environments to protect our cloud infrastructure.
  • Build, deploy, and maintain tools to improve threat detection, logging, and incident response capabilities.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as part of our Detection & Response strategy, ensuring that critical security incidents are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Design and implement automated detection rules and remediation workflows around our cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage identities and permissions at scale using tools like ConductorOne or AWS IAM Access Analyzer.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 7+ years of experience in Infrastructure Security, Security Engineering, or related fields (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Programming and Automation Skills: Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g. Python or Go), and experience automating tasks or building tools to solve security problems.
  • Cloud & DevOps Expertise: Strong experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP required; AWS highly preferred) and infrastructure-as-code or DevOps tools.
  • Holistic Architecture Understanding: Ability to understand complex application and system architectures holistically and identify potential security weaknesses.
  • Threat Detection & Response Experience: Practical experience identifying, analyzing, and responding to real-world security threats in a production environment.
