Medical Social Worker, Cork city

Medical Social Worker required for locum assignment on behalf of an acute tertiary referral hospital in Cork city.

Services at the hospital include; Level 1 Trauma Centre, Regional Cancer Centre, Paediatrics, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory, among other areas of medicine.

This role will cover medical and surgical disciplines and ED

The duties of the position include:

· The management of delivery of a medical social work service within a busy acute hospital setting

· Discharge planning

· Develop and maintain management information system

· Assessing and safeguarding older persons and vulnerable adults, at risk of or experiencing abuse.

· Assessing homeless persons who present to the ED and liaising with community services with a view to improving health outcomes and accessing immediate accommodation.

· Assessment and intervention services in cases of deliberate self-harm and problem alcohol and substance misuse.

· Frequent non-emergent attendees

· Frail Older Adults

· Trauma work

· Bereavement support

The Candidate:

· A recognised qualification as a Social Worker and CORU registration

· Ideally a minimum of 6 months post graduate experience working as a social worker in a medical or similar setting

· Permission to work in Ireland

· Professional approach to work

· Flexibility in work practice
