In Ireland, the insurance sector employs 35,000 people and contributes more than €2.7 billion to the Irish Exchequer each year.
As of the end of 2022, insurance and reinsurance companies based in Ireland held total liabilities of €438 billion.

Our members are progressive, innovative and inclusive, providing competitive and sustainable products and services to customers and businesses across the Life and Pensions, General, Health and Reinsurance sectors, both in Ireland and around the world.

Insurance Ireland's role is to advocate on behalf of our members within Ireland, in Europe and internationally.
We engage with the policymakers, regulators, other statutory bodies and media by emphasising the positive role that insurance plays in business and for consumers, and we highlight the issues of concern for our members and their customers.

Role Description This is a full-time hybrid role for a Director of Advocacy and Public Affairs (APA) at Insurance Ireland.
The Director Advocacy and Public Affairs will lead Insurance Ireland's advocacy and public affairs at domestic, EU and international level.
Leading the APA department, the Director will be responsible for the strategic engagement and political position-building process of the organisation in close cooperation with the policy and regulation team of Insurance Ireland.
The Director APA will further provide strategic advice to the organisation's Executive and members and coordinate outreach activities.

The Director APA will also coordinate and oversee Insurance Ireland's engagement with its EU umbrella association, Insurance Europe, and the Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) and cooperates closely with all relevant stakeholders.

The Director APA manages the Insurance Ireland's Advocacy and Public Affairs team in Dublin and Brussels and is a member of the organisation's Senior Leadership team.

Qualifications Minimum of 10 years' experience in a relevant environment.
Masters Degree in law or economics or other relevant field.
University level education or equivalent experience in law or economics.
Proficient knowledge of the (re)insurance industry in the EU and internationally, its regulatory environment & challenges.
Strong and robust network across all relevant stakeholders at domestic, EU and international level & significant experience of multi-agency work both national and international.
Ability to lead, manage, develop and retain a high-performing team.
Strong oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly articulate arguments supported by convincing evidence, and the presentation skills required to speak for Insurance Ireland at senior level meetings, conferences and in public.
