South Dublin County Council's Law Department provides comprehensive legal services and advice to the County Council in the entire area of local government law including Property Based Services, Statutory Enforcement, Litigation (including Judicial Reviews), Dispute Resolution, Procurement, Commercial and EU law and general Legal Advisory Services.
Property Based Conveyancing Services typically involve the buying, selling and letting of residential and commercial properties, together with the acquisition of lands required for public infrastructure and other purposes associated with the functions of the Local Authority.

South Dublin County Council is responsible for the enforcement of various regulatory codes including but not limited to Control of Dogs, Litter, Waste Management, Dangerous Structures and Derelict Sites, Standards in Rented Accommodation and Planning Enforcement.
Advocacy Services are also provided by the Law Department Solicitors in Judicial Review, Circuit and High Court proceedings, together with file preparation and advocacy services for the Councils Finance Department for debt collection financial recovery.

General advisory services are also provided to all departments within the Council under the direction of the Law Agent.
The Executive Solicitor will be required to work under the supervision and direction of the Law Agent.
They will also be required at times to work independently under their initiative as circumstances demand.

Minimum Requirements Have been admitted and enrolled as a Solicitor in the State; Have at least three years' satisfactory experience as a Solicitor, including adequate experience of conveyancing and court work, after admission and enrolment as a Solicitor; Possess a high standard of professional training and experience; Possess excellent professional knowledge and skills; Possess a knowledge of the legislation governing local authorities and statutory bodies together with an understanding of public service organisation; Possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills and have the ability to engage with a wide range of people; Possess good organisational and IT skills; Management and change; Delivering results; Performance through people; Personal effectiveness; Local government knowledge and understanding.
