The Governing Body invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Research Assistant Part-time for 12 months (25 hours per month, flexible hours) GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Duties and General Terms & Conditions of Employment CANDIDATE PROFILE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION Marino Institute of Education (MIE) wishes to appoint a Research Assistant on a part-time, 12-month fixed-term contract to work on theSelf-Developed Teacher Education Research Ethics Competency (TEACHer) project, funded by the European Commission.
The TEACHer project aims to develop innovative digital resources that can be used by teachers who do not have access to research ethics oversight.
The aim is to enhance their education research ethics (ERE) competence, thus building their capacity and confidence to engage with classroom-based research.
The resources produced will be created in partnership with teachers and informed by the real-world challenges and case studies experienced by teacher-researchers.
TEACHer is an 18-month project that runs from 01/01/2025 to 30/06/2026.
The role of the Research Assistant for this project is apart-time position involving 25 hours per month (1 day per week) from 07 April 2025 to 06 April 2026.
The research assistant will support the smooth and timely implementation of the project work plan, under the guidance of Dr Aimie Brennan (Principal Investigator) and the international consortium involved in the TEACHer project, including teams from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and St Joseph's Secondary School in Rush, Co. Dublin.
Essential Qualifications & Skills To be considered for this post, applicants will require: Essential Requirements: A Level 8 qualification in Education or a cognate discipline.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Availability to give up to 25 hours per month (1 day per week) to the role.
Administrative experience (e.g.
Word, Excel) Advanced research skills including data analysis and dissemination Knowledge of education research ethics Desirable but not essential: Experience using digital tools and social media sites Experience of being part of a community of practice Candidates must clearly indicate in their applications how they meet each of these pre-requisites.
JOB DESCRIPTION Reporting Relationship The appointee is required to carry out the duties attached to the post, under the general direction of the project Principal Investigator, Dr Aimie Brennan, to whom she/he reports, and to whom he/she is responsible for the performance of these duties in the first instance.
The reporting relationship may be subject to periodic review, in line with service needs and developments in the Institute.
Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of tasks including but not limited to: Provision of administrative support to the principal investigator, including scheduling and minuting of project meetings.
Collection and collation of project evidence (sign-in sheets, evaluation forms).
Provision of on-site logistical support during face-to-face events, including focus groups and dissemination events.
Monitoring and responding to email communication about the project.
Contribution to the social media presence of the project.
Collection and collation of quality assurance data in collaboration with the team.
Coordination of the Community of Practice (CoP) and management of its membership list.
Collection of financial reports, including electronic data sheets with financial information.
Contribution to the preparation of project interim and final reports.
Contribution to research presentations, publications, and journal articles stemming from the project.
All contributions will be appropriately acknowledged.

Method of Selection for Recommendation A shortlisting of applicants will occur which will be based on the applicants qualifications, suitability and relevant work experience as detailed in the application.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all relevant information is included in their application and that they clearly identify how they meet the specified candidate criteria.
Interview will be by interview panel consisting of no fewer than 2 persons and will comprise of the most suitable and qualified people to assess applicants in the discipline.
Candidates must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required.
Garda Vetting Successful applicants may be required to participate in Garda vetting.
Specific instruction on this process will be given at the appropriate time.
Salary The current annual salary scale for research assistants from the IUA point 1 is €30,025.
The appointment will be made pro rata for 25 hours per month.
