Neurodiversity Coach/Mentor - MTU Kerry Unijobs DAC are currently recruiting a number of Neurodiversity Coach/Mentor to engage within the Munster Technological University based on the campus in Tralee Co. Kerry V92 HD4V .
We are looking for someone to commence in September and the contract will be in line with the Academic Year 2025/2026.
The hourly rate being offered is €42.50 and the total number of hours per week will be dependent on the demand from the students within the University.
Job Details The eligible candidates will be listed on the MTU Kerry Campus Tutor Panel for Students with Learning Difference/Disabilities.
The Neurodiversity Coach/Mentor will provide regular one to one support to neurodivergent students, supporting these students in the development and maintenance of effective skills and strategies required to manage academic requirements and daily college life.
Person Specification The Neurodiversity Coach/Mentor should: Have experience in teaching / coaching/ mentoring across a range of neurodivergent learners - e.g.
AS, ADHD, DCD.
Demonstrate flexibility of approach to a diverse range of students.
Display an in-depth knowledge of neurodivergent characteristics in terms of strengths and challenges and how these can impact on an individual's ability to navigate and manage college life and academic demands.
Be familiar with university environments and hold an understanding of the requirements of learning at third level.
Understand "Transitions" issues and be skilled in supporting students struggling with transitions across the various stages of their academic programme.
Display an in depth understanding of the common issues with executive functioning and support identification of appropriate compensatory strategies best suited for individual students.
Hold awareness of the mental health challenges that can arise for the neurodivergent students and be cognisant of the appropriate available services/ contact points within the University.
Have an awareness of sensory issues and the impact of sensory overload and have the requisite skillset to support an individual experiencing overwhelm.
Be available to meet with students on campus/online at times appropriate to students' individual schedules.
Principal duties and responsibilities: The Neurodiversity Coach/mentor will: Be available for weekly/regular meetings with students.
Assist in devising tailor-made organisational routines fitting to the student.
Check/assist student interpretation of assignment briefs, if required.
Support the student in assignment task analysis and plan of approach.
Continuously check for procrastination and coach students in the ongoing development and practice of effective strategies to address procrastination.
Be alert for issues relating to perfectionism and signpost the student towards appropriate services/ supports where required.
Mentor students in their seeking of clarification from their lecturers/ department.
Check and mentor time management and review time management strategies on a regular basis.
Mentor management of the college day and daily life skills and provide targeted coaching where appropriate.
Provide the "listening ear" and signpost the student towards appropriate services within the University as required and appropriate.
Maintain regular contact with the Officer for Students with Learning Difference.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills: Candidates must hold a minimum of an Honours degree (level 8), second class or higher.
Candidates must hold a recognised teaching / coaching qualification and have a minimum of five years' experience of teaching neurodivergent learners in educational settings at post primary/ FET/ third level.
