About the job:

Project Management Strategy and Capabilities (PMSC), as part of R&D Portfolio and Project Management, provides leadership in the strategy and development of project and portfolio management processes, technologies, information, and capabilities to speed the delivery of medicines to patients globally. 

The PMSC Analytics Associate will assist in generating insight that facilitates the management of project execution, portfolio decision support, and resource management.

This role works closely with colleagues across Lilly R&D, finance, IT to design, improve, and/or deliver operational dashboards and visualization of project and resource information across the portfolio. This role also helps provide oversight to the consistency and integrity of project information managed in project and portfolio systems.

Analytics and Insights

Using deep understanding of the clinical development process and systems, develop and provide useful operational reports, metrics, and analytics to portfolio and project management stakeholders

Follow appropriate business processes for integration of data and presentation of analytics

Serve as a technical resource for reporting and analytics

Identify project risks and issues, and raise concerns appropriately

Develop improved mechanisms to consolidate, share, identify, and/or report on trends and issues in project and portfolio data

Seek out opportunities to better meet user needs through new or improved analytics delivery or systems

Generate engaging visual outputs for effective communication, understanding, and decision making by a diverse customer group

Lead projects to develop or enhance analytics for user groups

Systems Development and Management 

Maintain and grow a strong working knowledge of the systems used across R&D PPM and finance to manage projects, portfolio, and resources.

Partner across functions and geographies to build and/or refine systems used in project reporting and analytics

Partner with relevant business partners to investigate and resolve system issues quickly to ensure continued access to needed operational information; apply root cause analysis as needed

Apply continuous improvement mindset using customer requirements and process effectiveness as guiding principlesto enhance product functionality and efficiency in how project and portfolio insights are gathered, integrated, and delivered, including through automation

Maintain appropriate change control documentation

Develop and support user training as needed, including maintenance of job aids, FAQs, knowledge articles, etc

Partner effectively with vendor staff as needed

Support system testing as needed

Develop and maintain metrics as needed

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in technical science, computer science, finance, statistics, or related field 

Applied experience in developing and delivering analytic insights (data wrangling, data modeling, data mining, metrics, reporting, and visualizations)

Expertise with data analysis / visualization applications, languages, and analytics solutions, for example, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, Python, R, AWS, etc

Experience with enterpriser resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP)

Demonstrated ability to deliver clear and concise data interpretation and communications.

Other Information/Additional Preferences:

Advanced degree 

Practical knowledge and experience in capacity planning/modeling or costing

Understanding of and expertise in IT terminology and systems

Experience with enterprise portfolio and project management systems (e.g., Planisware)

Consistent successful demonstration of leadership behaviors consistent with Associate Director level performance standards

Excellent self-management and organizational skills; able to manage workload, set personal and team priorities and adjust as needed

Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills; able to develop effective teamwork between team members with diverse interpersonal styles; able to deliver effective coaching and feedback

Demonstrated ability to formulate a plan, gain alignment with leadership, implement within a team construct, assess results, communicate progress and issues proactively, and adjust plans accordingly.

Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills, able to organize messages succinctly and clearly for multiples levels within the organization

Strong problem-solving skills. Able to anticipate and recognize real issues, diagnose root causes, validate/confirm, and propose creative alternatives. Demonstrated ability to be flexible with work assignments. 

Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and perform new work tasks, achieve new outcomes as directed.
