Location of Post: Mental Health Intellectual Disability Service, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.

There are currently a number of permanent whole-time positions available in the MHID service.

A Supplementary panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Social Care Manager 1 from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

The MHID Service is a community service in Community Healthcare West, which provides Residential and other support Services to adults living with an Intellectual Disability.

Reporting Relationship: The post holder will work with the Deputy Social Care Manager, Social Care Leaders and front line staff in the service on a daily basis. They will also engage with service users, their families, members of the multidisciplinary team, the clinical lead, other senior managers and advocacy services as required.

Purpose of the Post: Social Care Manager 1 staff typically work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team in providing a high quality service to users. The Social Care Manager 1 will provide care, protection, and support to vulnerable or dependent clients, individually or in groups, in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team and other relevant agencies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The Social Care Manager 1 will:

Professional:

  1. Deliver a quality service ensuring professional standards are maintained in accordance with national and local requirements.
  2. Work within current legislation and policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols as laid down by the employer.
  3. Work in accordance with the principles and values of recovery as described in the National Framework for Recovery for Irish Mental Health Services 2018-2020.
  4. Work closely with and report to the relevant Manager in the administration and management of the Service.
  5. Take on the role of Person in Charge (PIC) or Person Participating in Management (PIM) as required.
  6. Assist front line staff, management and members of the multidisciplinary team in the design, implementation and evaluation of Person Centred Plans (PCPs) for people who use the service.
  7. Prepare and assist staff in preparing risk assessments, judgements and decisions based on the needs of the client.
  8. Promote the welfare of each person who uses the service.
  9. Work with the multidisciplinary team in relation to the safe and appropriate management of challenging behaviour.
  10. Maintain appropriate links with family members and community services.
  11. Attend and participate in Case Reviews and Multidisciplinary Team meetings as required.
  12. Provide written and verbal reports on a regular basis on the progress of development of people who use the service.
  13. Engage in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Service.
  14. Chair and participate in staff meetings, as directed.
  15. Provide leadership and motivation that is conducive to good staff relations and effective work performance.
  16. Report immediately to the Manager any incidents of poor practice.
  17. Co-operate with external monitoring and statutory inspections.
  18. Promote the rights and responsibilities of each person within the service setting.

Eligibility Criteria:

Qualifications and/or experience:

Candidates must have at the latest date of application:

  1. Possess the National Diploma in Childcare awarded by Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI).
  2. OR Possess the National Diploma in Applied Social Care Studies awarded by QQI.
  3. OR Possess the Diploma in Social Care awarded by QQI.
  4. OR Possess the Diploma in Applied Social Studies/Social Care from DIT.
  5. OR Possess a BA (Ord) in Social Care Practice (Level 7 on the QQI framework).
  6. OR Possess Open Training College National Diploma in Applied Social Studies (Disability).
  7. OR Possess an equivalent qualification.
  8. OR Be registered as a nurse in the General, Intellectual Disability or Psychiatric Division of the Register of Nurses kept by Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann.

AND

  1. Candidates must have 3 years experience of working with adults with intellectual disabilities.
  2. Candidates must have a suitable standard of professional attainments.
  3. Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

Health: A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office.

Character: Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements: Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in Intellectual Disabilities as relevant to the role, including experience in a managerial and administrative capacity in a social care setting.

Social Care Manager 1

Terms and Conditions of Employment: The current vacancies available are permanent whole time. The posts are pensionable.

Remuneration: The Salary scale for the post is of 01/06/2024.

Working Week: The standard working week applying to the post is to be confirmed at Job Offer stage.

Superannuation: This is a pensionable position with the HSE.

Age: The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018 sets 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.
