The Irish College of GPs is the professional body for general practice in Ireland. The College was founded in 1984 and is the Postgraduate Training Body (PGTB) for general practice accredited by the Irish Medical Council. Our primary aim is to serve the patient and the general practitioner by encouraging and maintaining the highest standards of general practice. We are responsible for postgraduate education, training, and standards in general practice and advises Government and the health services in relation to General Practice.

Job purpose
The Learning Technologies Manager is responsible for implementing, managing, and optimizing technology-driven learning solutions within the College. This role involves overseeing Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, and digital training tools to enhance the national GP training programme, education opportunities to College members, and to deliver College staff learning and development programmes. While the Learning Technologies Manager will report to the Executive Director of GP Training, the successful candidate will also collaborate with the Head of IT on certain tasks to ensure alignment and consistency in learning technology programmes and initiatives across the College.
Key result areas:
1. Learning Technology Strategy & Management:
- Develop and implement a learning technology strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Evaluate and recommend learning technology solutions, including LMS, e-learning software, ePortfolio, and virtual training platforms.
- Ensure seamless integration of learning technologies with the College's database, HR systems and other enterprise applications.
- Be responsible for College Learning Platforms including Moodle and ePortfolio (risr); managing the development of learning systems based on key stakeholder communications
2. Integrating Technology into Learning
- Help educators and trainers to effectively use digital tools, such as LMS, virtual learning environments (VLEs), ePortfolio, and multimedia resources.
3. Training and Support
- Provide technical training for GP Training scheme directors, trainees and trainers on how to use educational technologies effectively.
- Conduct workshops and create resources on effective e-portfolio use.
- Offer technical and pedagogical support to ensure best practices in digital documentation and self-reflection.
4. Research and Innovation
- Stay updated on emerging learning technologies, such as AI in education.
5. System Configuration, troubleshooting and Support
- Configure Learning Technology systems and train key users in order to optimise administration processes, e.g. cohort creation, communications, report generation, certification, and data archiving.
- Develop systems for administrators to triage and answer technical queries related to the College's digital education tools.
6. Data and Analytics
- Use learning analytics to track student progress and improve course effectiveness.
- Lead a data-driven approach to understanding and improving trainee success
7. Policy and Compliance
- Ensure digital learning solutions meet accessibility, security, and ethical standards.
8. Content and Curriculum integration
- Collaborate with faculty to design e-portfolio structures that reflect learning outcomes, competencies, and assessment criteria.
- Ensuring that the system supports reflective practice, self-assessment, and faculty feedback.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
- Applicants must hold a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate qualification; ideally in education/e-learning/digital learning with at least 7 years' experience in a related field.
- Excellent pedagogical and technological knowledge and skills, with the capacity to grow and develop further.
- Successful track record of encouraging educators to incorporate learning technologies into their teaching/learning/assessment practice.
- Successful track record of designing and facilitating professional development for educators, including providing workshops and creating support resources.
- Successful track record of working closely with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience of using Moodle in a manager or site administrator role
- Experience of incorporating generative artificial intelligence into teaching/learning/assessment
