The National Museum of Ireland (NMI) is seeking applications from suitable candidates to fill the post of Head of Estates (Assistant Principal Officer) in the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street, Dublin 7. This is a full time, permanent position. This position will be filled by open competitive interviews.
The role of Head of Estates is a key role within the NMI leading the NMI's visitor services teams and ensuring the historic and modern estate occupied by NMI is safe, secure, well maintained, and presented to our visitors and staff in a way be-fitting of a national museum.
The Head of Estates has a central role in ensuring that NMI's visitor experience is welcoming, engaging, and safe. This role will oversee NMI's front of house and visitor services and play a key role with regard to the safeguarding of the National Collection and providing high quality visitor services and access. In addition, the successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in other departments across NMI, as the Head of Estates has direct responsibility for the security and safety of collections, visitors, and staff.
The role is responsible for the management and direction of the following services - facilities, health and safety, security, staff accommodation as well as the maintenance and development of the buildings and sites occupied by the NMI.
The role will also provide leadership for all health & safety and fire safety related matters pertaining to the museum and is the designated safety officer for the NMI across all of its sites. In addition, the Head of Estates is a member of the NMI management team and in this role brings clarity and focus to the facilities, security and accommodation implications of strategic decisions taken at a management level.
The role will report to the Director of Operations with strategic planning involving the Director of the Museum
Starting Salary: Entry will be at the minimum of the scale - €77,528 per annum, the 1st Point on the Assistant Principal Officer Grade PPC Scale (Public Service Agreement – Greater of 2.25% or €1125). The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy
