Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the European Technology division of Canada Life Group. Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, the Communication and Employee Experience Manager has one direct report, a Communications & Design Specialist. You will deliver communications and drive employee experience programs for a workforce of c400 employees and a broader IT community of approx. 1000 people across Europe.

You will also support the European Technology Leadership team communicating on initiatives and strategy, engaging employees, and driving employee experience programmes. As a senior member of the People & Culture team you will work collaboratively with the People & Culture Business Partners and Learning & Development Lead to support a broad range of People, Culture and Employee Experience programmes.

You will enjoy using your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have a high level of personal credibility, and the ability to define and deliver the required communications and people engagement elements of our strategies. You will be an excellent project, resource and time manager and enjoy being your authentic self. Being part of a vibrant, energetic, fun team, you will seek to put your own stamp on developing communications and supporting the employee experience in our business.

Specific responsibilities will include
  • Lead the communications agenda, ensuring clear, consistent and timely messaging to all employees aligned to our business strategy, values and reflective of our culture
  • Foster a coaching relationship with leaders and managers in relation to Communications & the broader People agenda
  • Accountability for internal branding materials with support of a Communications & Design specialist
  • Act as trusted advisor to the business leadership
  • Generate and lead creative campaigns in line with our strategy that engage, inspire and motivate employees
  • Curate a pipeline of content for written communications and events
  • Manage the relationship and implementation of a new employee engagement tool
  • Oversee the delivery of the annual employee engagement survey, manage the communication of results with leaders and employees and support department leaders to drive action plans that make a difference
  • Ensure a relentless focus on building employee engagement across the organisation, departments and by supporting and coaching people managers
  • Represent European Technology on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) & Corporate Social Responsibility steering groups within the wider Irish Life Group and drive European Technology focused DEI events/programmes
  • Drive the enhancement of our communications tools & platforms
  • Foster strong relationships with all relevant stakeholders including senior management and local Communications teams/points of contact in each of the 13 lines of business
What you will need to be successful in the role
  • A qualification in Communications, Business, HR or relevant area
  • Strong experience in leading an Internal Communications team
  • Perceptive with an ability to adjust tone and tenor of communication dependent on the audience
  • Operates with a high level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to partner with and drive value for key stakeholders
  • Good project manager with excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to build rapport and influence across all levels of the organisation`
  • Technical skills across different platforms and tools including Microsoft 365 applications (Teams, Yammer, PowerPoint etc)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable acting autonomously, confident in their decision-making and judgement, showcasing their ability to prioritise competing demands on their time with agility and tenacity
