About the post: RCSI is the national institution responsible for the delivery of surgical and emergency medicine specialist training. Through our Department of Surgical Affairs we support our trainers and trainees in the delivery of the national surgical and emergency medicine training programmes. We also deliver a range of academic programmes leading to postgraduate diplomas and Masters Degrees along with the intercollegiate membership surgical examinations and the specialist fellowship examinations. We promote surgical research through the RCSI-National Surgical Research Support Centre (NSRSC).A key objective of the RCSI-NSRSC is to support and facilitate surgical research across the island of Ireland. The RCSI-NSRSC are currently supporting Investigator-Led, collaborative and International surgical trials and research projects across various surgical specialties in all aspects of trial set-up, management and coordination. A key objective of the NSRSC also involves providing training in surgical research and trial methodology.

Duties of the post: As a Clinical Trial Coordinator, you will play a key role in assisting the RCSI-NSRSC team in the day-to-day operational activities of coordinating surgical trials including:

  • Support the review and development of research protocols and patient information documents
  • Prepare and co-ordinate the submission of Research Ethics and Regulatory applications
  • Assist with writing of submissions for grant funding
  • Create and maintain study files and other required documentation, as required.
  • Prepare study-related training materials and participate in site study initiations and study closure processes
  • Assist with data management and study reporting
  • Arrange study training and ICH-GCP training as necessary
  • Conduct site visits, as necessary
  • Prepare regular study status reports for the Clinical Project Manager, National Clinical Lead, Operations Director and Managing Director of Surgical Affairs
  • Ensure the tracking of study activities and milestones in a timely manner.
  • Support the Clinical Teams to ensure compliance with ICH-GCP for study-related activities
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for internal and external communications.
  • Support scheduling and managing of meetings including agendas and minutes
  • Complete all assigned training and facilitate ongoing personal development and learning
  • Adhere to RCSI and relevant hospital or institution policies, SOPs, guidelines, applicable laws and regulations for the conduct of clinical research
  • Any other duties assigned by the RCSI-NSRSC National Clinical lead and Programme Manager Candidate Experience and requirements: Essential
  • Bachelors degree/MSc in Science or equivalent work experience in a scientific or health related field
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience coordinating clinical trials or working in a clinical research environment
  • Knowledge of clinical research regulatory requirements including ICH-GCP, GDPR
  • Desirable
  • Experience in preparing trial documentation and ethics & regulatory submissions
  • Good knowledge of the Irish Healthcare clinical research system.
  • Have published clinical research in recognised peer-reviewed scientific journals Skills & Competencies:

Project Management Skills: Ability to ensure that project plans are communicated and that all timelines are met
