Enterprise Architecture and Technology Simplification is part of Group Technology and Customer Solutions. We influence the strategic plans of Bank of Ireland and drive the definition of the target architecture in order to radically simplify our estate, support our growth ambitions, become customer obsessed, and act in a responsible and balanced manner

The Principal Architect will engage senior business, change and IT partners and set the agenda for the banks SAP domain/platform. Working closely with other enterprise architects in a well-established Enterprise Architecture team.

In this Role, you will

Provide leadership and architectural mentorship to a portfolio of the bank's critical modernisation, transformation, and simplification initiatives.

  • Define and implement IT strategies for the business areas that rely on SAP platforms, namely Finance and People Services, aligning with business strategies and Enterprise IT Strategy.
  • Liaise with business partners and other enterprise architects to understand broad business and IT objectives. Lead senior partner engagement, teamwork and communication on strategy/roadmap alignment and activities to influence investment decisions.
  • Direct and guide a portfolio of change programmes and initiatives, maintain oversight to ensure implementation of Finance and People Services domain strategies, within architecture governance guard-rails.
  • Work with a small team of Lead Architects, supporting and mentoring them to develop solid skills to support the implementation of the domain strategies for Finance and People Services.
  • Provide domain expertise and mentorship on IT Strategies, SAP Platforms, architecture standard processes, principles, and frameworks to technology delivery teams ensuring architecture governance is followed throughout the change lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key technology vendors and partners to ensure the Bank has access to groundbreaking technology capability and skills and can take advantage of emerging technology trends.
Essential Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will work closely with senior business and technology leaders to define and align IT strategies for the Bank's SAP Platforms, in-line with the bank's overall business and technology objectives.

The candidate will bring significant experience and deep domain expertise in the SAP platforms.

  • Demonstrable experience in architecture, within banking and financial services, and with significant experience / understanding of SAP platforms, SAP hosting and the business areas of Finance, People Services and/or Risk.
  • Deep understanding of up to date technology stacks, including cloud computing, microservices architecture, API led architectures, and Data Architectures.
  • Superb communication, influencing and teamwork skills, with a proven track record of working in multi-functional teams.
What will make you stand out?
  • Excellent knowledge of industry standard processes and regulatory requirements, specifically in the areas of Finance, People Services and/or Risk.
  • Experience of SAP Transformations
  • SAP S/4 Hana & SAP SuccessFactors would be an added advantage
Essential Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience.
