Actuarial Operations Team Lead

Job Summary

Zurich Life Ireland is looking for an Actuarial Operations Team Lead to support the Head of Actuarial Operations in their responsibilities, with an acute focus on project work and developing actuarial trainees within the team.

This role may be available both full and part-time. Please talk to us about the flexibility you may need.

Your Role

As an Actuarial Operations Team Lead, you will report to the Head of Actuarial Operations and your main responsibilities will include (but will not necessarily be limited to) the following:


• Managing a team of 4-6 members of Actuarial Operations with a key focus on developing an in dept knowledge of ZLAPs people, processes, products and systems.


• Taking the lead on various investigations and/or correction exercises which will involve supporting actuarial trainees, and other member of the team on doing the following:
1. Identifying and understanding the root cause of the issue
2. Designing, building, and testing automated tools to investigate and analyse data
3. Designing automated tools to calculate any necessary correction amounts due to policyholders
4. Managing communications and internal reporting for any correction exercise
5. Developing procedures and controls to prevent re-occurrence


• Accountability for processes, procedures and people remaining compliant with all governance controls and frameworks

• Complete the performance management cycle with staff, including providing coaching and feedback for improved performance.

• Taking personal responsibility for ensuring complex issues are resolved using commercial and business awareness

• Maintaining an appetite to improve or automate existing processes and encouraging this attitude in team members

• Sharing existing knowledge with other members of the team, through training and on the Wiki, so that knowledge of systems, processes and products is maintained within the team

• Maintaining/forging links with all Operations and Finance teams so that we both can better understand each other's processes and be quickly informed of any emerging issues which Actuarial Operations might need to be aware of

• Responsible for team governance including risk identification and mitigation, audit, customer outcomes, complaints, breaches and quality frameworks

Your Skills and Experience

As an Actuarial Operations Team Lead your skills and qualifications will include:

TECHNICAL

• Excellent knowledge of Life Assurance and Pension products

• Excellent knowledge of Life400

• Detailed knowledge of policy terms and conditions and actuarial practice standards

• Detailed knowledge of current operational practices

• Strong numeracy and analytical skills, problem solving and 'thinking outside the box' abilities

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (EXCEL, Access & Word)

• Partly/fully qualified actuary or interested in pursuing an Actuarial qualification

NON TECHNICAL

• Excellent accuracy and attention to detail

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Be well organised and capable of managing a number of tasks while working to tight deadlines

• Evidence of managing change with positive outcome

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

• Highly motivated quick learner, with a commitment to developing a culture of curiosity and accountability

• Be enthusiastic and keen to providing top quality service with the aim to improving the end-to-end experience of dealing with Zurich for customers and brokers

Additional Information

Primary work location is Dublin. Position is Dublin based but occasional travel may be required to other Zurich locations.
