Senior Systems Engineer - Platform Infrastructure SEA

Why We Have This Role

As an engineer working on the Platform Infrastructure team, you will work closely with engineers in multiple disciplines across the company, as well as security, compliance, and operations. You will be heavily involved in the design and implementation of infrastructure and tooling that enables every engineer at Qualtrics. You will be responsible for ensuring that our high-throughput services are able to scale to the demands of the company. You will be responsible for upholding operational excellence, making sure our critical infrastructure is running smoothly and efficiently.

How You'll Find Success
  • Deep knowledge in Linux systems and a variety of open source tooling/technologies.
  • Establishing productive working relationships with other platform teams, AWS counterparts, security, and compliance teams
  • Designing with an eye towards scalability, both in technical measures and organizational processes
  • Possessing a customer-obsessed attitude when working with application teams within the company

How You'll Grow

You will be expected to gain a deep understanding of how applications are run at Qualtrics, ushering the company into the new world of Kubernetes/EKS, and modernizing how applications perform discovery and encryption using a service mesh.

Things You'll Do
  • Influence the way that engineers at Qualtrics running applications through best-in-class tooling, and services
  • You will create, deploy, and operate services that ensure our overall platform exceeds goals for availability, scalability, and performance
  • You will help define how Qualtrics engineers operate containerized workloads
  • You will architect the services and design the best practices for service discovery for all of Qualtrics engineering
  • Participate in periodic on-call responsibilities as part of a global team

What We're Looking For On Your Resume

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in developing and operating large scale software systems.
  • Proven record of operating large-scale services that serve other developers as your primary customers
  • Skilled at debugging applications within a Linux environment
  • Good understanding of web technologies & protocols e.g. TCP/IP and HTTPExperience with professional software engineering practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documents)
  • Experience in high-level languages like Go and scripting languages like Bash
  • Experience with container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes (especially EKS) or Nomad
  • Experience with Service Mesh and Service Discovery technologies like DNS, Consul, Cilium, Envoy, etc.

  • We work closely with AWS, aligning with our AWS TAMs to understand their internal roadmap of enterprise-focused container orchestration features.
  • We work at tremendous scale; our services must scale to support the entire landscape of Qualtrics engineering.
  • This team sits alongside all of the other internal platforms, infrastructure, and developer experience teams that power Qualtrics. We hold a high bar across these teams and foster a culture of transparent discussion and rigorous design reviews.
