Trinity College Dublin- an introduction Post Summary This Occupational Therapist (Senior) post leads on the development of an occupational therapy practice for the Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities (TCPID) and its students.

This is a multi-faceted role, working with students, colleagues and external partners (namely business partners) for the day-to-day management and future development of the TCPID programme, both within College and for the future replication of the model elsewhere.

The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a quality person-centred Occupational Therapy service to students with disabilities within TCPID and the School of Education.

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for working with the students utilising the occupational therapist process to deliver an inclusive learning environment, for delivering modules for personal development and for preparing students for their transition to employment or further education.

These modules involve group and individual sessions, and aim to work with the students to develop self-awareness in relation to their health needs, communication, advocacy and the skills needed for the transition to the world of work.

The Occupational Therapist meets with students on a one-to-one basis to identify goals for development to assist students in their studies, student life and eventual transition post-studies, in cooperation with other Centre staff.

The Occupational Therapist works closely with the Business Pathways Coordinator to assist in the development of partnerships with business and to assist business partners with the setting up and running of work placements for students.

This includes assessing all aspects of the work environment, such as work spaces for students, the job demands, providing mentor guidance and providing any relevant training and workshops and ongoing support during these placements.

The post holder is also responsible for developing relevant training programmes for College units and for external agents.

The Occupational Therapist leads on the strategic development of TCPID ensuring that occupational therapy is at the core of the Centres work and ongoing development, thus enabling an ongoing focus on student transition into the world of work.

The Discipline of Occupational Therapy in Trinity College works in collaboration with TCPID and provides ongoing professional supervision to the holder of this post.

The successful candidate will report to the Academic Director of TCPID and ultimately to the Head of School, working closely with the other OT in the Centre and with other staff in TCPID.

Please note that Garda vetting will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for the post.

Context The Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities (TCPID) situated within the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin aims to promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in education and society.

The Centres mission is to enable people with an intellectual disability to develop their potential by a combination of high quality research, dissemination of new knowledge, lifelong learning and professional training.

The Centre provides people who have intellectual disabilities with the opportunity to participate in a higher education programme designed to enhance their capacity to fully participate in society as independent adults.

Standard Duties and Responsibilities of the Post This is a list of the tasks, duties and responsibilities for the role.

The list is not exclusive or exhaustive and from time to time the post holder may be required to undertake other duties as directed by the Academic Director of TCPID or the Head of School.

The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the following:

Professional/ Clinical Ongoing development and maintenance of standards of practices of self and staff appointed to clinical/ designated area(s).

Managing student caseload including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for students. The day-to-day running of OT presence within TCPID.

Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other healthcare and educational personnel in the team.

Ensure that the quality of documentation of all assessments, progress notes and reports are in accordance with university and professional standards.

Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance to College and professional standards.

Participate in teams as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members. Attend review meetings, team meetings, conferences, supervision meetings as designated by your line manager and supervisor.

Cooperate with TCPID teaching and administrative staff to ensure an appropriate and relevant pedagogical approach for the students in their everyday interactions with them during their studies.

Be responsible for adhering to existing standards and protocols and for the development and maintenance of standards / strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement.

Seek advice and assistance with any assigned duties in line with principles of evidence based practice and clinical governance. Ensure that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation. Operate within the scope of Occupational Therapy practice within Ireland and in accordance with local guidelines. Education & Training Participate in relevant training programmes.

Participate in continuing professional development including in-service training, attending and presenting at conferences / courses relevant to practice, contributing to research etc.

as agreed with your line manager and supervisor. Manage, participate and play a key role in the practice education of student therapists.

Take part in teaching / training / supervision of other Occupational Therapy and non-Occupational Therapy staff / students and attend practice educator courses as appropriate.

Health & Safety Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.

Be aware of and implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.

Actively participate in risk management issues, identify risks and take responsibility for appropriate action. Report any adverse incidents in accordance with TCPID policies and procedures. Administrative The co-ordination and delivery of service in TCPID. Promote good working practice and uniformity of standards of best practice.

Promote quality by reviewing and evaluating the Occupational Therapy service regularly, identifying changing needs and opportunities to improve services, in collaboration with relevant others.

Develop and implement service / business plans, quality initiatives, audits etc. Collect and evaluate data about the students and demonstrate the achievement of the objectives of the service.

Oversee the upkeep of accurate records in line with best clinical governance, organisational requirements and the Freedom of Information Act, and render reports and other information / statistics as required.

Represent the TCPID at meetings and conferences as appropriate. Liaise with the supervisor and line manager regarding the needs and interests of students. Promote good team working, and a culture that values diversity. Engage in IT developments for students and service administration. Perform such other duties appropriate to the OT role within the TCPID. Teaching Responsibilities Assist in the planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation of relevant modules for 1st and 2ndYear TCPID students. Develop and provide workshops for employers on supporting students on placement. Provide advice and support to employers regarding individual students. Support students to address any problems with their work placement. Provide students with the skills to reflect on their learning.

Help in preparing students for presentations at events Work with students for collaborative goal setting either individually or on a group basis with a focus on transferable skills.

Plan and facilitate career development group sessions in conjunction with business partners. Meet students individually on a regular basis providing support for their transition to employment or future education.
