Overview
This is a developmental opportunity; no experience is necessary.
Accredited training will be provided to support your career.
The primary duty of the Sound engineer is to monitor live programming and studio usage, assist in the production of programmes (live and pre-recorded), ensuring production standards are upheld and facilitating broadcasting from venues other than the station's studios.
Time flexibility is a must, as the position involves evening and occasional weekend work.
Duties
Live on Air and Outside Broadcastings – Studio duty shifts where the sound engineer is responsible for the broadcast output of the station during these shifts, including lining up pre-recorded material, engineering live programming and studio cleanliness.
Volunteers – to assist Near FM volunteers in producing and promoting programming, including engineering, editing and podcasting.
Overnight – to load up Near FM's night-time programming which runs remotely 11.30 pm to 8 am daily.
Archive – to archive previously broadcast content for the Near Archive website.
Podcast – to podcast content for the Near FM 'Listen Again' website and the NearCast platform.
Outside Broadcast – provide crew and sound assistance to the OB team by operating the desk and PA system; liaise with radio manager, outreach officer, promotion staff, presenter, producer and studio duty person in the preparation of OB event.
Essential Education Qualifications and Attainments
Minimum of Leaving Certificate or equivalent
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Ability to use computers to a good standard (word, excel, email, internet, google docs)
Interest in sound studio
Familiarity and interest in audio editing (Adobe Audition an advantage)
Punctuality, reliability
Excellent Organisational skills
Good communication skills including the ability to deal with a wide range of needs and respond to line manager and other staff/volunteers in a timely manner
Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise own work to meet agreed objectives.
Ability to work as part of a team
Other Desirable Skills, Abilities & Experience
Knowledge of Near FM programme schedule
Experience in dealing with community and voluntary organisations
Ability to facilitate work of team members
Support training of individuals and groups
Empathise with marginalised groups
Good user knowledge of equipment and studio settings
Understanding studio booking procedure
Podcasting and archiving experience
Use of portable recording equipment
