Tasks:
Puppy fosterers play a vital role in the early socialisation and training of a future Assistance Dogs.
We would place an 8-week-old puppy with you to live for approximately 6 months.
If you prefer, older puppies from 8 to 15 months old are also available.
You will care for the puppy with support from our Puppy Supervisor, who will teach you the fundamentals of socialisation and simple commands to begin training.
Your goal is to prepare the puppy to become a well-rounded dog that can transform the life of a child with autism.
We cover all costs, including food, vet bills, and provide all necessary equipment.
About Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland
We provide highly trained assistance dogs to children with autism.
These dogs offer invaluable support, helping to ensure the child's safety and aiding their integration into the community.
They provide a calming influence during anxious moments and can increase confidence, independence, and provide structure and consistency.
Activity
We are seeking puppy fosterers in County Waterford.
Requirements
As a Puppy Foster volunteer, you will care for a puppy in your own home and dedicate time to its training and care throughout its stay.
Requirements include:
Being over 18 years old
Having a safe, enclosed garden (assessment may be needed)
Access to transport for socialisation and training
Availability for home visits and training sessions
Good communication skills; previous dog training experience is a plus but not necessary
Ability to manage house training and puppy behaviors such as chewing and barking
Personality Skills & Additional Details
Level of English Required: Good
Time Commitment: Flexible, minimum hours undefined
Availability: Morning, Afternoon, Evening, all days of the week

Support provided includes supervision, training, expense reimbursement, insurance, and ongoing education.
