Experience and skills we need:
In-depth knowledge and experience in multiple aspects of Software Engineering, with a particular focus on enterprise scale, cloud native solutions.
Knowledge and exposure to modern software and cloud architectures, with experience in designing and leading the build of enterprise architectures and solutions.
Extensive experience in cloud computing.
A minimum of three years' experience in a technical leadership role, working at a senior level in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.
Experience in architecting complex, scalable solutions and designs, using multiple technologies and processing environments.
Good knowledge of the Well-Architected Framework, with experience in promoting it across multiple teams.
Experience in working in partnership with business stakeholders, defining technology strategies and building solutions to meet their business needs utilising a product mindset
Extensive leadership, coaching and mentoring experience, including implementing engineering excellence best practises across multiple teams.
Demonstrable experience designing and building AI-based solutions and/or AI platforms at scale.
Hands-on experience with AI/ML tools, frameworks, and platforms (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, ML Flow, Data Bricks Azure/AWS/GCP AI services).
Experienced with MLOps, data engineering or deployment of ML/AI models in a commercial environment.
Track record of delivering production-grade AI applications or integrating AI capabilities into existing platforms.
Demonstrable understanding of data governance, ethical AI, model explainability, and privacy concerns (e.g., GDPR) in designing AI solutions
Experience in the establishment of or monitoring, retraining, and lifecycle management for deployed AI/ML systems, ensuring continued accuracy, fairness, and compliance.
Familiarity with experiment tracking tools and automated ML workflows (e.g., MLflow).

Experience leading teams on AI-driven projects, such as recommendation systems, automation, or intelligent data processing.
Academic or industry recognised qualifications in ML or AI related subjects.
What you'll be doing:
You will be working across the following areas of responsibility.
Product and technology strategy
Form deep partnerships with Liberty Mutual and Liberty IT stakeholders to fully understand the business area you are partnering with to establish, lead and own the technology strategy and roadmap to enable the business to achieve their objectives.
Research trends and practices outside of Liberty and the Insurance sector, and apply these where beneficial to the business and Liberty IT.
Influence the selection and implementation of infrastructure and software product standards to significantly impact current strategic roadmaps and technical practices.
Consult and collaborate with technology leaders, business partners and peer groups regarding long and short-range product features.
Make, guide and justify decisions characterized by high levels of risk, impact and complexity.
You will build consensus between various groups or highly independent and diverse stakeholders.
Partner with Product Owners and Engineering teams to align technical design and strategy with the product roadmap
Provide consultation to Senior Leadership, business partners and peer groups regarding long and short-range business requirements.
Recommend innovations, which anticipate the future direction of the business, its drivers and technology strategy.
Partner with other members of the Leadership and Support team to secure new opportunities aligned with our technology strategy.
Play a leading role in defining and implementing AI/ML strategies, technical decisions and guidance, ensuring responsible and ethical adoption of AI technologies across business areas.
Hands-on Architecture and Engineering
Create, design and develop architectures and scalable solutions to resolve business problems in line with the Liberty IT architecture direction and standards.
When appropriate, work with software development teams and Technical Leads to establish engineering standards that align to our enterprise well-architected framework.
Provide technical management and drive development of very large, strategic and complex systems using future facing technologies and platforms.
Actively design, code and test as part of delivery.
Investigate and prototype complex, cross platform solutions to validate the introduction of new technologies to the solution.
Recommend emerging solutions, technologies and tools to increase market share and/or reduce operational costs.
Architect, design, and support the implementation of AI solutions, collaborating closely with data scientists and ML engineers.
Guide teams in the adoption of AI/ML best practices, standards, and tooling.
Bridge the gap between data science, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure AI solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
Lead and coach teams
Coach and mentor Engineers to reach their potential.
Share knowledge about areas of expertise, understanding the right medium and approach to reach your target audience.
Identify and develop new technical capabilities based upon business needs and the technology strategy.
Support multiple technical teams, finding and using best practices and emerging technologies.
Educate multiple teams and areas of the well-architected framework to facilitate the framework's adoption as a cultural norm.
Champion and drive the adoption of AI.
Promote AI literacy, best practices, and responsible AI use within engineering teams.
Liberty IT initiatives
Actively participate in communities across Liberty IT and Liberty Mutual, leading where appropriate, working and collaborating with peers.
Raise the global profile of Liberty IT as a leading technology company through interactions at conferences and industry events.
Where appropriate, share your technical expertise and achievements as a Liberty IT employee to audiences outside of Liberty IT and Liberty Mutual.
