Senior Electrical Engineer
to join our expanding Power Transmission and Distribution team.
About The Business Unit:
Our Energy and Power Grid division offers a wide range of services globally, including hydropower, nuclear energy, waste management, renewable energy, offshore wind, and transmission & distribution networks.
We provide integrated engineering and project management solutions throughout the project lifecycle, emphasizing sustainability and net zero compliance, supporting the global energy transition.
This role involves working on diverse projects developing innovative solutions for power transmission grid systems, ensuring security of electricity supply, integrating renewable energy sources, and managing large infrastructure projects from concept to delivery.
You will collaborate with clients such as major utilities and global demand customers in a rapidly evolving energy sector.
The position is permanent, aimed at an ambitious and enthusiastic Electrical Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
Design of primary plant layouts for HV substations.
Review and assess detailed designs for compliance with specifications.
Review HV equipment procurement specifications and technical schedules.
Develop commissioning and energisation instructions and review as-built documentation.
Conduct design reviews and construction monitoring, contributing to stage gate assessments.
Respond to complex client queries related to technical design standards.
Contribute to or produce contestable specification packs, review SLDs, and provide expertise on HV cables, stations, and OHL for client projects.
Prepare equipment specifications for HV plant and ancillary equipment.
Provide engineering input across project lifecycle stages, from feasibility to commissioning.
Coordinate with client project teams and internal disciplines, including civil, structural, environmental, and CAD/BIM teams.
Deliver projects involving new technologies such as energy storage, HVDC systems, smart grids, and waste-to-energy solutions.
Provide professional services to clients in the UK and internationally.
Candidate Specification:
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Qualified or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
Experience with Irish transmission and distribution operators such as Eirgrid and ESB.
Experience in designing, delivering, and supervising HV substations (33kV, 110kV, 400kV).
Site construction and commissioning experience preferred.
Development of specifications for HV AIS/GIS substations.
Experience across all project lifecycle stages.
Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards for HV systems.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in power industry operations or maintenance.
Experience with substation automation, protection, and control systems.
Extensive experience in high-voltage substation design and grid development.
Chartered status or working towards it with Engineers Ireland.
Proven success in engineering design for major power projects.
Strong coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of emerging power sector technologies.
Ability to mentor junior engineers.
Excellent communication skills, capable of delivering services internationally.
Additional Highly Desirable Experience:
Experience in multi-discipline engineering projects.
Chartered accreditation or progress towards it.
Consultancy experience.
Experience working with Eirgrid and ESB on grid projects.
Experience reviewing detailed designs and witnessing construction activities.
