Job Summary
In this role, you will be responsible for developing new technology and supporting existing technology to improve production, quality, profitability and safety.
You will plan, schedule, and execute projects and report status to targeted timelines.
You will work within the Operations or Development Department supporting new manufacturing projects.
You will specify, purchase, and manage the implementation of new manufacturing solutions to meet customer requirements for new product introductions.
You will report directly to the Senior Automation Engineer or above.
Note: This is a Fixed Term contract of 12 months.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage new equipment process and product introduction projects.
Develop and implement manufacturing strategy to meet customer and West's needs.
Establish and manage project teams, deliverables, time and cost, set priorities, and report to meet business and customer needs.
Establish relationships with customers and equipment suppliers for new business, product development, manufacturing process development, continuous improvement, and ongoing business development.
Manage equipment suppliers ensuring delivery meets specification, cost, and time.
Ensure new equipment meets regulatory requirements, validation, health and safety.
Install new equipment with training and hand over to operations.
Collaborate with all departments to ensure new processes meet requirements.
Identify, specify, and introduce new manufacturing methods and opportunities.
Represent West at customer meetings to ensure business needs are met.
Ensure procedures and systems facilitate introduction of new processes and equipment.
Serve as technical expert in automated manufacturing processes and develop business competency to meet customer requirements.
Compliance with site Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and regulations.
Compliance with local site and corporate policies.
Perform additional duties as directed by supervisor.
Education
Associate's degree in a relevant engineering subject required, or
Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering subject preferred.
Minimum NFQ Level 7 degree in engineering or equivalent; automation, mechatronics or mechanical engineering preferred.
Work Experience
Minimum 3 years' experience in medical device industry or other regulated industry required.
Familiarity with hardware and software components of PLCs and vision control systems; preferably Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs and Cognex Vision systems.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Background in medical devices or pharmaceutical environments is a plus.
Knowledge of quality systems requirements, FDA Quality System Regulation, cGMP and ISO standards.
Knowledge of industrial network architectures (Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, Profibus) and fault-finding networking skills.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of EU-GMP preferred.
Experience in medical, packaging, or technology industries with understanding of regulatory requirements and serialization.
Familiarity with standard operating procedures as related to the position.
Travel Requirements
5%: Up to 13 business days per year.
Physical Requirements
Light exertion up to 20 lbs (9 kg) of force frequently; negligible constant force to move objects.
Additional Requirements
Must be able to work a 39-hour work week, with overtime and/or irregular hours as required.
May stand or sit for extended periods; must travel to other areas of the facility and to other divisions when necessary.
Must have good visual acuity; must be able to see with or without corrective lenses and distinguish color differences for product and safety issues where required by customer requirements.
Medical device manufacturing requires strict adherence to standards; environment may include fumes and particulates from plastics; work areas are well-lit and may be demanding due to competing resources while maintaining confidentiality.
