OverviewPost Title:Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist VFACPost Status:Permanent ContractDepartment:PhysiotherapyLocation:Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9Reports to:Physiotherapy ManagerSalary:Appointment will be made in line with Government pay policy.€70,698 to €82,040Hours of work:Full time (35 hours)Closing Date:12 noon on 31/10/2025Please note:The hospital reserves the right to close the competition early should a substantial number of applications be received.Position SummaryThe post holder will be the Physiotherapy clinical lead for the Virtual Fracture Assessment Clinic (vFAC) in Beaumont Hospital.The aim is to work with the Orthopaedic Consultants and wider multidisciplinary team at an advanced practice level to assist with the management of an outpatient fracture pathway.The post holder will attend daily vFAC clinics and provide Physiotherapy follow up as required.The overall vision is to improve the patient journey for those who present to the Emergency Department with a fracture.A reduction in frequency of Orthopaedic clinic attendances is a Key Performance Indicator for this role.ResponsibilitiesBe a lead clinician in the Physiotherapy Profession and carry a clinical caseload appropriate to the postBe responsible for client assessment, development and implementation of individualised treatment plans that are client centred and in line with best practiceBe responsible for goal setting in partnership with client, family and other team members as appropriateBe responsible for standards of practice of self and staff appointed to clinical / designated area(s)Be a clinical resource for other PhysiotherapistsCommunicate and work in co-operation with the Physiotherapy Manager and other team members in providing an integrated quality service, taking the lead role as requiredCommunicate effectively with and provide instruction, guidance and support to staff, clients, family, carers etc.Document client records in accordance with professional standards and departmental policiesProvide a service in varied locations in line with local policy / guidelines and within appropriate time allocation (e.g. clinic, home visits)Participate and be a lead clinician as appropriate in review meetings, case conferences etc.Develop and promote professional standards of practiceWork within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governanceSeek advice of relevant personnel when appropriate / as requiredProvide weekend and on call service where it is a requirement of the postDevelop advanced skills as relevant to clinical area.Education & TrainingThe Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will:Participate in mandatory training programmesKeep up to date with Physiotherapy practice by participating in continuing professional development (reflective practice, in service, self-directed learning, research, clinical audit etc.)Have responsibility for service provision, education and training, service development and quality improvementInduction and clinical supervision of staff in the designated area(s)Coordinate and deliver clinical placements in partnership with universities and clinical educatorsManage, participate in and play a key role in the practice education of student therapists; engage in teaching / training / supervision / evaluationPossess management abilities and potential for future lead responsibilitiesEngage in personal development planning and performance review for self and othersIntegrated Model of Care for the Prevention and Management of Chronic Disease Implementation Guide (Required)Quality, Safety & RiskThe Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will:Co-ordinate and deliver a quality service in line with best practiceDevelop and monitor implementation of policies, procedures and safe practiceEnsure safety of self and others and maintain safe environments and equipmentAssess and manage risk in their areaTake timely action to manage incidents or near missesReport deficiencies or dangers to the team or Physiotherapy ManagerEnsure safe and competent use of equipment by clients and staffDevelop and promote quality standards and cooperate with quality assuranceOversee standards of best practice within the Physiotherapy teamHave working knowledge of HIQA Standards and comply with HSE protocolsAdministrativeThe Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will:Contribute to service planning and developmentReview and evaluate the Physiotherapy service regularlyCollect and evaluate data and demonstrate achievement of service objectivesMaintain accurate records and statistics; render reports as requiredRepresent the department at meetings and conferencesInform the Physiotherapy Manager of staff issues as appropriatePromote a culture of diversity and respect in the workplaceParticipate in stock and equipment control with the Physiotherapy ManagerBe accountable for the budget where relevantKeep up to date with organisational developments in the Irish Health ServiceEngage in IT developments as they apply to clients and service administrationPerform other duties as assigned by the Physiotherapy ManagerKey Working RelationshipsThe Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will:Work collaboratively with other physiotherapists, medical, nursing and other health and social care professionals across the acute and community servicesEstablish links with other organisations, national and international, to benefit patient careAccountabilityPhysiotherapy Dept Work: report to Physiotherapy Manager in Charge III for clinical governance, attendance and service performance managementClinic Work: report to Consultants for clinical governance in triage, advanced practice remit and service performance managementQualificationsSelection Criteria:Selection criteria for the post are the qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience required.Applications will be assessed on how well candidates satisfy these criteria.Mandatory:Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etcCandidates for appointment must be registered, or eligible for registration, on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by CORUFive years post-registration experience, of which four years must be in the required areaDemonstrate clinical excellence and continuing professional development relevant to the areaEvidence of involvement in audit, quality improvement, teaching and researchProvide proof of Statutory Registration on CORU2. Annual registration (on appointment) and PSAC complianceMaintain annual CORU registrationConfirm annual registration with CORU via PSAC3.
