OverviewCoAction West Cork provides quality services to support children and adults with an intellectual disability, and children with autism.This is achieved by helping each service user reach their full potential, working in partnership with their families and carers, within the community.Social Care WorkerResponsible to:Children's Services CoordinatorDepartment:Children's Services and Home SupportWorking pattern:Saturday AllowanceContract:Permanent, Part time, 39 hours per weekClosing date:Tuesday 28th October ****For full position details and job description or for details on submitting an application please visit our websiteor you can email******The following description gives a broad outline of the post only.It is neither inclusive nor definitive.Duties may be altered or amended to suit the changing needs of our clients.Staff will be consulted regarding any such changes.It is our policy to review job descriptions on an on-going basis.Overall Purpose of PositionTo take responsibility for the day-to-day activities in the group home.To assist the social care leader in responsibility for health and safety, programme implementation, personal care plans, budget management, staff planning, staff support and family liaison.Job GoalTo listen to, learn from, support and work to achieve the priorities of the residents in compliance with the National Standards for Residential Services Children & Adults with Disabilities ****, and related regulations.To provide them with a home-from-home in accordance with CoAction's Mission Statement.ResponsibilitiesMain ResponsibilitiesCare for the day to day needs of the residents in compliance with the Health Care Act **** (Care and support of residents in designated centres for persons (Children and Adults) with disabilities) regulations **** and related regulations and standards.Promote, create and maintain a welcoming, caring and supportive environment in the Group Home with a high standard of care.Treat residents with dignity and respect at all times.Be attentive to the physical and emotional needs of the people supported.Encourage group participation in day-to-day running of the house (cleaning, budgeting, cooking, menu planning, shopping, recreation activities).Contribute to provision of a programme of stimulating activities and assist residents in developing hobbies.Escort and assist on group outings arranged.Ensure residents are not subjected to any form of abuse, including bullying or threats of bullying.Implement agreed service user programmes in liaison with the social care leader.Maintain relevant records within the house to a high standard.Share in duties essential to maintaining hygiene and domestic duties to keep the house clean and tidy.Maintain good relationships with clients' families and other professionals under guidance of the Social Care Leader/Area Manager.Participate in staff meetings and ensure health and safety guidelines are adhered to at all times.Report and address all accidents/incidents and complaints in line with CoAction policies and procedures.Keep the social care leader/area manager informed of residents' welfare through regular reports and oral communication.Be alert to potential dangers in premises or equipment and address promptly.In case of immediate danger, take appropriate action to reduce risk of injury.Develop relevant skills by taking part in training courses; deliver induction and training to residential staff as agreed with the Social Care Leader/Area Manager.Carry out day-to-day supervision of staff reporting to you.Contribute positively to the development of CoAction and its services, ensuring adherence to policies.Maintain confidentiality within the team while sharing information as needed.Perform other duties as discussed with the Social Care Leader/Area Manager.Teach daily living and social skills to residents.Administer and record prescribed medication to residents.Be an active member of the day/residential team and attend meetings/case conferences as required.Health & SafetyBe aware of and practice correct use of aids and appliances (e.g., hoists).Report and document accidents/incidents in the accident/incident book.Know duties under Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act ****.Report faulty equipment to the Person in Charge, Staff Nurse/Supervisor.Know emergency actions and plans; ensure fire and safety precautions are maintained.LeadershipUnder supervision, manage, develop and support staff, including induction, supervision and training in line with Foundation practices and regulations.Contribute to coordination and development of individual plans; hold supervision meetings with support staff as directed.Set goals and develop with support staff; ensure policies and procedures are followed.Develop and maintain communication with residents, colleagues, families and stakeholders.Promote dignity at work and ensure relationships with residents are respectful and promote independence.Embrace advocacy in person-centred care; handle complaints per policy.Person SpecificationEssential QualificationsA recognised qualification with a third-level supervised practice element, or a recognised professional qualification for Social Care (examples include Youth and Community Degree, BA & Hdip, NQSW/BSW/MSW, RNID, RNMH, HETAC/DIT diplomas, etc.).Driving licence is essential.Essential SkillsInterpersonal skills; ability to relate to people with intellectual disabilities; flexibility; willingness to learn; ability to work on own initiative; knowledge of advocacy; ability to write reports; computer literacy; good communication; leadership ability.Essential ExperienceMinimum 12 months experience in a residential setting with adults with an intellectual disability.Good working knowledge of HIQA; supervisory and budgetary experience;
