Overview
We're seeking a Senior Motion Designer to join our award-winning internal creative agency at Johnson Controls.
This role is ideal for a highly creative, strategically minded motion designer who brings ideas to the table—not just execution.
You'll play a key role in shaping the visual storytelling of one of the world's leading smart buildings companies, delivering compelling content across video, digital, and experiential formats.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with producers, writers, and stakeholders to conceptualize and craft motion design that elevates the Johnson Controls brand globally.
As a senior team member, lead by example and contribute confidently in meetings.
Creative Development: concept and storyboard animated content for product explainers, campaigns, social videos, internal communications, and brand storytelling.
Design Execution: own the motion design process from start to finish—style frames, animation, compositing, sound, and final delivery.
Brand Stewardship: ensure motion graphics align with and enhance our visual identity; push boundaries while maintaining brand coherence.
Collaboration: participate in team brainstorms, kickoffs, and stakeholder reviews; present and defend creative decisions clearly and respectfully.
Efficiency & Ownership: manage multiple projects with competing deadlines while maintaining a high standard of work; collaborate with editors, designers, and copywriters to streamline post-production workflows.
Required
What we are looking for
5–8 years of professional motion design experience in a creative agency, in-house team, or production studio.
Proficiency in Adobe After Effects is essential, including advanced knowledge of animation and visual effects workflows.
Advanced skills in Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
Knowledge of 3D (Cinema 4D, Blender) is a plus.
Familiarity with emerging AI tools and techniques that support creative production, such as generative design, AI-assisted animation, or video enhancement tools.
A strong portfolio demonstrating a wide range of motion design styles, creative thinking, and problem-solving.
A confident, collaborative approach to creative discussions—you're comfortable presenting your work and ideas to stakeholders.
A passion for storytelling through design, and an eye for detail, timing, and pacing.
An understanding of corporate branding and the ability to elevate even the most technical topics into engaging visual narratives.
A degree in Motion Design, Animation, Visual Communication, or related field.
Preferred
Experience working in a global B2B brand environment.
Familiarity with video editing and audio design principles.
Knowledge of accessibility standards in video and animation.
