We are seeking motivated and skilled professionals to join our team as
Environmental Inspectors
and
Scientific Officers
, working to protect and improve Ireland's environment.
These roles offer the opportunity to work across a broad range of important environmental functions, including licensing, compliance, scientific assessment, monitoring, policy support, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
Processing and assessing licence applications (e.g., Industrial Emissions, Waste, VOCs, GMOs, Wastewater Discharge, GHGs, and Dumping at Sea)
Reviewing end-of-waste and by-product notifications and preparing national decisions
Monitoring and enforcing licence conditions across sectors such as industry, waste, water, and radiological protection
Conducting inspections, audits, and investigations, and preparing detailed technical reports
Assessing scientific and environmental reports including Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and Natura Impact Statements (NIS)
Responding to environmental incidents and complaints, and contributing to emergency response
Supporting the development of guidelines and procedures for environmental management and regulatory compliance
Gathering, analysing, and presenting environmental data to inform national and EU policy
Engaging with national and international stakeholders including the European Environment Agency
Contributing to the development of integrated environmental information systems and public-facing resources
Additional Duties May Include:
Supporting the implementation of environmental directives such as the Industrial Emissions Directive
Participating in research projects and expert working groups
Providing technical support for water and waste infrastructure planning and operations
Working collaboratively within teams to deliver on annual work programmes and strategic goals
Engaging with the public and external stakeholders in a clear and professional manner
Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and operational integrity
Candidates must have on or before 4:00pm on Thursday 28th August 2025:
1.
A minimum of a third level qualification (NFQ Level 8 or higher) in Science or Engineering obtained within the last 18 months.
2.
Demonstrated experience in gathering research, assessing, and interpreting the information, and experience communicating the results in a clear and concise manner.
3.
Driving Licence - Applicants should at the date of applying hold a full valid Irish /EU licence, for Class B vehicles, or a licence acceptable to NDLS for transfer to full Irish licence.
