
Electrical Technician

This is a shift role based on a biopharmaceutical site for a multinational company, offering career progression opportunities. The role requires day and night shifts with a rotating schedule.
Role summary: The Electrical Shift Technician is responsible for ensuring that all utilities equipment under their charge is available during the shift, with alarms and deviations responded to and resolved per site procedures.
Responsibilities- All work on site to be carried out in accordance with site EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) rules and guidelines.
- Operate and monitor site critical utilities systems.
- Perform first-line and scheduled maintenance for utilities equipment.
- In coordination with the shift team and shift lead, respond to, report, and escalate equipment deviations per site procedures.
- Liaise with subcontractors during planned service maintenance.
- Ensure area owners review and sign relevant work permits.
- Complete all related documentation in compliance with site and regulatory rules and guidelines.
- Deliver delegated engineering tasks in line with good engineering practice and regulatory, statutory and corporate requirements.
- Assist the engineering support team with updating Utilities Standard Operating Procedures and deliver training with Operations Teams.
- Comply with the site IPPC licence terms and ensure all on-site actions are within those terms.
- Keep training curricula up to date with client requirements (SOPs, Engineering Work Instructions, etc.).
- Carry out investigations on utilities equipment, identify problem areas, and assist in improvement procedures.
- Liaise with the site Utilities Engineering Support Team.
- Ensure smooth handover of issues to the oncoming shift and support on planned/unscheduled shutdowns.
- Maintain professional and courteous interactions with all personnel on site.
- Update spare parts lists as appropriate and participate in utilities reliability programs.
- Contribute to local reviews of maintenance performance data using published KPI results and drive continuous improvement.
- Adhere to paperwork requirements and to PM:CM ratios and related performance metrics as directed by Contract Manager or Shift Lead.
- Senior Trades, City & Guilds or equivalent in electrical engineering.
- Minimum 2 years' post-qualification experience in industrial utilities, preferably in pharmaceuticals.
- Proactive attitude, ability to organize and prioritize tasks, attention to detail, and self-motivation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to accurately document work performed.
- Experience with pumps, HVAC systems, compressors, boilers, steam systems, DHW skids, chillers, cooling towers, clean steam boilers, purified water systems, CIP, and low/medium voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS/QBMS/MCS/ECS/EMS).
- Understanding of Preventive Maintenance Systems and PLC/SCADA control systems.
- Experience in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) environment and a Permit to Work System.
- Ability to read and understand P&ID drawings; knowledge of SOPs and GMP engineering systems; basic instrumentation.
- Team player with a methodical and analytical approach, good problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Experience working on a 24/7 production site and with shift teams; ability to work in a team and resolve conflicts.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
