Overview

Senior Electrical Authorised Person (Senior AP) to take a leadership role in managing the safe operation, authorisation, and compliance of electrical systems within a data centre in Frankfurt, Germany. This role carries overarching responsibility for electrical safety, including HV and LV switching, safe systems of work, and permit control, while supervising a team of APs and technicians. As Senior AP, you will act as the primary authority for electrical safety and help ensure the data centre maintains maximum uptime in a highly critical environment.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the highest level of electrical authorisation within the data centre.
  • Lead and manage a team of Appointed Persons (APs), Authorised Persons, and Electrical Technicians.
  • Develop, implement, and audit Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) including Permits to Work, Sanctions for Test, and Limitations of Access.
  • Supervise and approve HV/LV switching operations, isolations, and energisation.
  • Review and sign off risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for electrical activities.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex, high-risk, or business-critical electrical operations.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide mentoring, training, and competence assessments for APs and technical staff.
  • Ensure compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations, IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and applicable EU/German standards.
  • Liaise with senior management, clients, and regulators on all aspects of electrical safety and compliance.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for electrical infrastructure, upgrades, and resilience projects.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Recognised electrical engineering qualification (apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or degree).
  • Previous experience as a Senior Electrical Appointed Person or Lead AP in a data centre, power generation, utilities, or critical environment.
  • Proven competence in HV/LV switching and isolation procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, ATS/STS, and electrical distribution.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop APs and technicians.
  • Experience in developing and enforcing electrical safety systems and compliance frameworks.
  • Fluent English communication skills (German desirable but not mandatory).
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Frankfurt (relocation support provided for EU citizens).
