Summary

Celestica Galway (Ireland) offers a thrilling opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in designing, implementing, and optimizing automated manufacturing systems for our high-volume production lines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation technologies, a proven track record of improving manufacturing efficiency, and the ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion.

In this dynamic role, you will lead the charge in delivering cutting-edge projects, optimizing processes, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to enhance production efficiency and quality. With a focus on impact-driven solutions and a collaborative work culture, this role promises a stimulating journey in engineering excellence.

Detailed Description

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for high-volume manufacturing processes. Execute the developed solutions within a regulated environment, ensuring proper change management processes are followed internally and with customers.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and commissioning of automation projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets. Prepare and manage the capital package from concept through to project closure
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation system issues, minimizing downtime and maximizing production output.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and maintenance, to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with industry leading suppliers to Evaluate and recommend new automation technologies and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements for automated systems.
  • Conduct performance analysis and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation system reliability.
  • Ongoing development of tooling for a comprehensive set of complex machines and mechanical process steps within a manufacturing sector.
  • Assessment of the capabilities of machines and process applications using Design of Experiments
  • Understanding and providing feedback on customer's technical requirements to team members and management.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Project Management - Ability to manage/lead complex, multiple line engineering projects that may also involve other functions. Demonstrate solid understanding of the technical, financial and people aspects of the project. Able to create a project/change management plan and ensure that the project is delivered within the assigned time and budget. Ability to recognize project barriers and develop mitigation plans
  • Leadership - Demonstrate "People & Team Leadership Behaviours" as per Celestica Leadership Imperatives.

Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley), HMI development, and SCADA systems. Familiarity with software applications (C, C++, Python etc) and the suitability of or interaction between PC & PLC based solutions
  • Experience with robotics, vision systems, and other automation technologies.
  • Experience of machine safety and associated regulations from equipment design through documentation
  • Understanding of technical mechanical drawings and experience of documentation of hardware and software designs suitable for implementation in a regulated industry
  • Mechanical and/or electrical hands-on experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing and guiding technicians to repair a complex machine in a high-volume environment.
  • Someone with an ability to initiate and lead change, collaborate and create alignment, drive accountability, think critically and make sound decisions
  • Someone that has previous experience with customer Management and a knowledge of customer and regulatory requirements
  • Someone that has previous experience of coaching and mentoring junior engineers.

Typical Education
  • Degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Automation with a 5+ years' relevant experience
  • Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
