Social Care Assistant - Children's Connect Service, Co. Mayo
Western Care Association is seeking to grow its team across County Mayo. This permanent post is a Monday to Friday service, after school from 2.30 to 6.30. Reference Number 2025-193.
Job Brief: Children's Connect Service is an exciting development in supporting families and children with intellectual disability and/or autism and other identified needs in County Mayo. The service partners with HSE Progressing Children's Disability Network Teams and aims to support priorities for families with flexible respite and community-based supports. It also works with Western Care's Children's centre-based respite services and Home-Share service as part of a broader suite of respite services.
Responsibilities- Provide flexible community-based respite support to high-priority families identified through the county-wide respite referral forum and through Western Care Association admission criteria, including after-school, community access, and evening support.
- Liaise with Western Care Children's service team, HSE CDNT teams, TUSLA, and CAMHS where appropriate.
- Contribute to and participate in local service planning, development, and adapting to changing needs of the service.
- Ensure a safe place of work in line with Western Care's Dignity at Work Policy and Health & Safety requirements.
- Promote safety in all environments and use positive approaches to support people who may have challenging behaviour per organisational practice.
- No minimum qualifications required for Social Care Assistant positions.
- Knowledge and experience of supporting individuals with intellectual disability and/or autism is essential.
- Understanding of person- and family-centered approaches is essential.
- Previous experience working with young people is preferable.
- Good communication, time management, and timely record-keeping are essential.
- Ability to work in partnership with families; experience working with multiple agencies is desirable.
- Flexibility in working hours and location; IT skills are preferred.
- Full driver's license is essential; Garda Vetting and reference checks will be conducted; work authorization for non-EEA applicants as required; Overseas Police Clearance if applicable.
- Support service planning and development to meet changing needs of the service.
- Provide personal care and support to service users as required.
- Adhere to health and safety practices and the organisation's Dignity at Work policy.
- Support safety across environments and follow the organisation's practices for handling challenging behaviour.

Social Care Assistant Pay Scale: €31,278 to €43,407 per annum (based on full-time hours – 39 hours per week).
