About the projectThe project you will be working with is an environmental and media company focused on bringing attention to environmental issues specific to Africa. They work with many different clients, ranging from broadcasters, corporations, non-governmental organizations, print media and online news outlets. Their work is not restricted to water-based work, and you can also get involved in their terrestrial work.
Training and syllabus- Equipment and setup: DSLR cameras in Sea&Sea housings; Panasonic HVX200 video and GoPros with lighting and accessories.
- Course aims: empower you to see and explore the underwater realm with new skills; learn to capture well-exposed and composed images and films; creativity and new techniques are encouraged.
- Additional techniques: star trails, time-lapses and other land-based techniques.
- Teaching team: hand-picked and trained to help you become part of the marine world; focus on exposure, composition, and storytelling.
- Potential topics: capture star trails, time-lapses, and other techniques on land.
They offer a training syllabus that includes direct tutorship, practical underwater and cultural expeditions, free diving training, and theoretical plus practical tuition for digital workflow and post-processing.
Expeditions and training specifics- Underwater expeditions: Month-long program includes 20 expeditions (2 pool-based focusing on underwater model work; 16 focused on local marine wildlife, wide-angle and macro).
- Cultural expeditions: 2 expeditions focusing on water/surf-based photography of human models and on photographing local village life.
- Free diving training: 4 expeditions, including pool-based breath-hold techniques and open-water sessions for locating and photographing marine wildlife while snorkeling; one session may involve underwater model work.
- Lectures and practicals on Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere tailored for underwater photographers.
- Creative ideas for underwater specialists; keywording images for stock sites.
Daily routine alternates between diving, photography, videography, tutoring, free diving, and processing/editing. The program runs on weekdays; weekends include activities, tours, or rest.
