About the Role:
The Communications Manager is a senior role responsible for leading and shaping communications programmes within an organisation. You will set the strategy and workplan for your team and take responsibility for delivery, applying specialist knowledge to support excellent, public-focused communications. You will provide leadership to team members, build capability across the function, and manage communications across multiple work streams (e.g., strategic communications and campaigns, media relations, events, digital communications, stakeholder engagement or internal communications).
You will have a keen understanding of the political system in Ireland and a strong interest in current affairs. You will provide communications advice to senior leaders and build relationships with counterparts in other government departments, agencies, and external organisations.
About YouCandidates must have on or before Thursday 18th of September 2025:
- Option 1: A qualification at minimum level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) or NARIC Ireland Foreign Qualifications equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., Communications, Public Relations, Marketing) and at least 4 years' experience managing communications projects or programmes, including experience across at least four of the following areas:
- Public affairs / stakeholder engagement
- Internal communications
- Option 2: At least 6 years' experience managing communications projects or programmes for an organisation, including experience across at least four of the areas above.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams including line management and staff development.
- Experience leading on planning and delivery of communications with evidence of effective strategies and programmes based on analysis, data, audience understanding and business objectives.
- Experience managing day-to-day media and stakeholder enquiries.
- Experience managing digital and social media, including developing bespoke content.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure.
- Experience handling budgets and ensuring value for money.
- Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proven organisational skills with ability to manage multiple demands to tight deadlines.
- Ability to act as a spokesperson and manage communications on behalf of an organisation with consideration for reputation and risk management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to network, build relationships and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including presentation) with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to diverse audiences.
- Motivated, flexible and adaptive, with the ability to contribute to change and use initiative as appropriate.
- Keen understanding of the political system in Ireland or the capacity to acquire it quickly, with a strong interest in current affairs.
- Well-developed IT/digital skills including MS Office and familiarity with specialist software used in the communications area.
- Commitment to continuing professional learning and development.
