The Contracts Manager will be required to provide a commercial service to the business, ensuring that Cubic complies with its contractual obligations; customer organisations are accountable for their obligations under their contract(s) and assistance and commercial support in other departments.
This role will hold responsibility for key contractual workstreams on major Cubic contracts, while also supporting specific departments with commercial oversight and issue resolution.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review requests for proposals (RFPs) commercially; identify risks; identify unacceptable terms. Complete overall risks assessment in support of bid-no-bid determination
- Review proposals to ensure compliance with company policy and acceptable risk standards
- To lead negotiations effectively with Cubic's customers and suppliers to ensure robust and enforceable contracts are in place in a timely manner and with acceptable risk for Cubic
- To prepare contractual documents such as licences, loan agreements, NDA's etc.
- Provide commercial and contractual advice to specific departments allocated and ensure that any issues are resolved
- To monitor and review internal processes such that they remain robust and updated with Company policy and requirements
- To approve and sign correspondence within the requirements of a given contract
- To work closely with and provide advice and support to Cubic's Project Managers and department managers in the management of projects
- To ensure that if the customer does not perform its obligations under a contract that Cubic is appropriately compensated for any change in scope of work
- To manage variations from receipt to closure including approving and signing of responses and price builds; attending Kick Off meetings and bid reviews
- To manage claims processes in an auditable manner
- To manage and negotiate the timely prosecution of legitimate claims under the contracts held by Cubic
- To manage and negotiate and mitigate any deleterious effect of claims made on Cubic by sub-contractors and/or suppliers
- To consider ways in which new forms of contract may be employed to improve timeliness or efficiency or reduce the risk to Cubic
- To contribute to the development of strategic objectives of Cubic and to work as directed in implementing them
- To liaise closely with Business Development and share market intelligence for the benefit of Cubic
- To foster and develop relations with key personnel within customers and potential customers such that Cubic are involved as early as possible in any opportunity
- Attend meetings; prepare presentations and such like as required internally and externally
- All in accordance with the Cubic's approved processes
- Comply with Cubic's values and adherence to all company policy and procedures. In particular comply with the code of conduct, quality, security and occupational health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
- In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them
Minimum Job Requirements:
Skills knowledge and experience:
Essential:
- Proven experience in effective contract preparation, negotiation, and administration
- Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in standard office IT tools (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook); comfortable working with contract management and collaboration platforms
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Desirable:
- Experience working with or within European and public sector procurement frameworks
- Practical experience in project coordination or project management—e.g. tracking timelines, following up on actions, managing dependencies, and driving issues to resolution
- Comfortable operating in a cross-functional environment, liaising with legal, technical, and operational teams
- A general understanding of the technologies used in ticketing or transport systems (helpful but not essential)
- Full clean driving licence
Education and qualifications
Essential:
- Degree in relevant technical or business discipline and/or equivalent level of experience.
Desirable:
- Professional procurement/contract management qualification
