We seek a full-time post-doctoral researcher for a European Research Council funded project. The researcher will investigate veterancy among colonized and/or Indigenous populations within the U.S. imperial polity. The project is based in the Arts and Humanities Institute and the History Department at Maynooth University, with funding for extensive archival work overseas.

COLVET is a four-year ERC Starting Grant led by Professor Dónal Hassett. It explores how colonized peoples grappled with military service legacies and develops a comprehensive account of colonial veterancy during the interwar period. The project compares veteran policies across the French, Italian, American, and British empires, analyzing their definitions, systems, and political impacts, to deepen understanding of veteran history and diversify analytical concepts.

This position is funded by the EU (Grant No. 101115749). The views expressed are those of the authors and do not reflect the EU or the European Research Council. The EU or the grant agency is not responsible for the content.

Post-Doctoral Researcher salary (2025): €45,847 (plus increments). Appointments follow public sector pay provisions.
