Join the Wexford Bus Driver Training Academy

Wexford Bus offers a comprehensive Bus Driver Academy with an inclusive training package for aspiring bus drivers. The company covers all costs related to driving lessons, training, and vehicle provision (approximate value of €3000).

We seek exceptional individuals for our trainee bus driver program. You will receive top-tier training from qualified instructors in Wexford to obtain your category D driving license, with potential employment and further development opportunities at Wexford Bus.

We are interested in candidates eager to pursue a career in the transport industry, especially in bus and coach driving. No prior experience is necessary.

The key qualities for a Trainee Bus Driver are friendliness, helpfulness, good communication skills, and a passion for working with people.

To join the trainee program and apply for your Category D License, you must:

Program Details
  • Be over 21 years old and typically reside in Wexford, Ireland
  • Be medically fit to drive
  • Hold a valid full category B (car/light van) driving license
  • Possess a category D learner permit

Before starting, candidates will undergo a brief interview. If you already have your learner permit, the next steps include:

(a) an on-road driving assessment with our training vehicle to evaluate skills and tailor your training plan, or
(b) starting the process to obtain your learner permit.

Initial training will be conducted at our Wexford Bus depot in Drinagh, Wexford, with our qualified trainers using Volvo 9700 buses equipped with advanced driver support systems.

The all-inclusive D Category Bus Training (valued at approximately €3,000) includes:

  • Driving assessment
  • Driving lessons (2 hours per session) with a qualified instructor, covering regional and national roads, night driving, hazard awareness, reversing, vehicle control, and progress assessment
  • Driver CPC training, including vehicle checks and defect reporting
  • Modular Driver Training Induction covering health and safety, driving for work, and customer service
  • On the test day, a 2-hour warm-up and use of the vehicle for practical tests

Wexford Bus aims to provide a fully inclusive training package, covering all driving lessons, training, vehicle provision, and third-party costs of €333, which include:

  • Category D (bus) Theory Test
  • Driver CPC Case Study Test
  • Category D license and learner permit
  • Driving test
  • Driver CPC practical walkaround test
