My client are a busy inpatient mental health service, registered as an approved centre with the Mental Health Commission. They have over 200 staff members,
They provide a spectrum of neuropsychiatric services to adults with complex and enduring mental health needs, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's Disease, early-onset dementias, schizophrenia, and mood disorders.
Care is delivered by a dedicated Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) that includes Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietetics, Physiotherapy, and General Practice.
The Occupational Therapist will work with residents with severe and enduring mental illness and complex needs. This is a pivotal post with responsibility to lead and manage an Occupational Therapy caseload in the service, while contributing to high-quality, patient-centred care.
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Mental Health
- Deliver and uphold the highest standard of Occupational Therapy care in line with local and national standards.
- Undertake assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programmes for residents and patients.
- Collaborate with residents, families, carers, and colleagues to set goals and design tailored treatment plans.
- Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring effective communication and co-operation.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical records of assessments, interventions, and related discussions.
- Provide Occupational Therapy services within a legally compliant and budget-conscious framework.
- Contribute to clinical governance, strategy development, and operational planning as a member of the Clinical Governance Committee.
- Engage in supervision and ongoing professional development, with monthly supervision from the Senior Occupational Therapist.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist
- CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist.
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and statutory regulations within healthcare.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
