Life Scientific is a fast-growing company dedicated to developing and delivering high-quality, crop protection products. Our Analytical Science team underpins this mission by ensuring our products meet the highest scientific and regulatory standards, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

Why This Role Exists

The Analytical Scientists in our R&D group are responsible for the development, validation, and execution of analytical methods to support the characterisation of substances, preparations, and co-formulants throughout the product development life cycle of plant protection products (PPPs).

This role is a fundamental part of our R&D team, with key deliverables that directly support the company's long-term strategies in European and global markets. Core to our success is recruiting the right people who will thrive in our culture, enabling company performance to excel while also achieving their personal career goals.

Role Purpose

This is a technically demanding but highly rewarding role for scientists seeking to build a career in a cutting-edge crop protection company. Strong communication and organisational skills are key, along with scientific aptitude, attention to detail, and the focus to get the job done in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, evaluate, and execute chromatographic and mass spectrometric (MS) analytical methods for substances, preparations, and co-formulants in crop protection finished products.
  • Perform analysis of the components (both active substances and co-formulants) of PPPs.
  • Execute physical and chemical methods to evaluate the performance of PPPs, including stability evaluations.
  • Evaluate laboratory data and prepare reports in a time-efficient manner, providing recommendations or conclusions as appropriate.
  • Contribute as a member of cross-functional project teams.
Experience & Qualifications

Required

  • Recognised 3rd-level scientific qualification in a relevant science discipline, preferably analytically focused.
  • Excellent scientific aptitude.
  • Ability to present clear and concise written reports.
  • Strong problem-solving ability; thrives in an environment where analyses are not routine.
  • Can perform tasks under pressure in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a strong sense of good housekeeping and adherence to laboratory safety norms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, meeting strict timelines.

Preferred

  • A good working knowledge of chromatographic analysis.
  • Experience with both traditional analytical techniques and modern instrumentation (HPLC, UPLC, GC).

Desirable

  • MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Expertise with Empower and/or MassHunter software.
  • Experience in mass spectrometry (GC-MS and high-resolution LC-MS).
  • Understanding of basic project management principles and methodologies; experience with Lean/Agile project management an advantage.
Key Attributes for Success
  • Adheres to Life Scientific's core values: Respect, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Partnership, Engagement, and Customer Focus.
  • Solves problems proactively and seeks help when needed.
  • Maintains focus on delivering high-quality work within committed timeframes.
  • Works cooperatively across the organisation, valuing knowledge-sharing.
  • Communicates clearly, respectfully, and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a positive, team-first attitude.
  • Actively embraces feedback and sees challenges as opportunities for development.
Appointment Level

Based on experience, appointments may be made at different grades (e.g., Analytical Scientist 1 or Analytical Scientist 2).

What We Offer
  • A people-first culture where mentorship, learning, and development are recognised and valued.
  • The opportunity to make a tangible impact within a high-performing R&D team.
  • A collaborative environment with close partnership across scientific and regulatory teams.
