Overview

Automation Engineer – A specialist engineering business designing and manufacturing high-performance automated machinery and packaging solutions for global clients. With a strong reputation for technical excellence, compliance, and innovation, the company serves industries including pharmaceutical, medical device, and FMCG. As they continue to grow, a new role has opened for an Automation engineer to join their team in Wexford.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our clients engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, programming, and commissioning of PLC and control systems for complex automated packaging machinery. This is a key role in delivering high-quality, compliant, and innovative solutions to a global customer base.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program, configure, and test PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems for automated packaging equipment
  • Design and implement control system architectures to meet project specifications and regulatory standards
  • Commission machinery on-site and provide technical support during FAT/SAT
  • Troubleshoot and optimise control systems to ensure performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation, including software design specifications and test protocols
Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Automation, Electrical, or Control Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years' experience in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, motion control, and industrial communications (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, etc.)
  • Experience in commissioning, troubleshooting, and supporting automated machinery
  • Familiarity with validation and compliance standards for regulated industries (pharma/medical device)
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and strong communication skills
  • Willingness to travel for site commissioning and support

  • €70,000 - €90,000 DOE

Location

Based in Wexford, with occasional travel to client sites.
