Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Automation Engineer to lead the development and integration of automation software across advanced packaging solutions. This individual will play a key leadership role in shaping software architecture, ensuring best-in-class programming and validation practices, and mentoring a high-performing engineering team. The position offers significant growth potential as the company strategically expands this business division, providing visibility and career advancement opportunities. This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise, strong stakeholder communication, and the ability to manage complexity under pressure. This is a full-time role based onsite in Co. Wexford with some flexibility potentially available after an initial period.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of software for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, motion control, vision systems, and robotic solutions.
  • Own software architecture and coding standards across projects.
  • Define and review system requirements, functional specifications, and design documents.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless integration of software with mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Champion software validation and compliance with relevant industry regulations (e.g., GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11).
  • Provide hands-on development, debugging, and troubleshooting support on projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement in software development practices and tools.
  • Mentor junior software engineers and support competency development across the team.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap and innovation pipeline of the business
Candidate Requirements

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor\'s or Master's degree in Automation, Electrical, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial automation and software development.
  • Proficient in programming PLCs (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Schneider EcoStruxure).
  • Practical experience with HMI systems, safety systems, and motion control.
  • Familiarity with GMP, GAMP, DQ, FAT, SAT, validation processes, and regulatory environments within the pharmaceutical and food sectors.
  • Experience with industrial robotics (SCARA, Delta, Cobots) and machine vision.
  • Expertise in fieldbus and industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet).
  • Excellent leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Desirable
  • Experience with high-level languages (Python, C#, C++) for middleware/test applications.
  • Familiarity with MES/ERP integration and Industry 4.0.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity in industrial automation environments.
  • Experience in DevOps practices, version control, DevOps, CI/CD toolsand automated testing tools.
  • Exposure to project delivery within FDA/EMA regulated facilities.
  • Experience working in or leading agile teams
Remuneration
