Overview

ESB Trading, part of the Generation and Trading division of ESB, trades the output from the ESB portfolio in GB and Ireland through various trading strategies and time horizons. ESB Prompt Trading desks operate across all short-term Power and Gas Markets to optimise ESB positions and maximise value from the ESB generation portfolio. We are seeking a candidate with high potential to lead our Great Britain Prompt Trading team. This is a unique opportunity to join the ESB Trading leadership team and help shape ESB's trading strategy, particularly as the UK offshore wind portfolio continues to expand.

The Promp t Manager will operate as part of the wider ESB Trading management team in delivering against business plan targets and contribute to the development of an informed and empowered workforce through effective communications, teamwork, accountability and key performance measures. The role is customer-centric, leading engagement with stakeholders including ESB Generation and Asset Management, GB National Gas Transmission, NESO and other areas of ESB to grow and enhance the business, while developing Trading Strategies in line with ESB's Brighter Future strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Great Britain Prompt Trading team and contribute to the successful delivery of the wider ESB Trading business' financial targets.
  • Proactively optimise trading positions in power and gas markets in the prompt electricity markets.
  • Maintain and develop prompt trading systems and processes to optimise positions and manage regulatory risk.
  • Manage contracted trading services for the Inch Cape offshore wind farm (ESB JV project).
  • Regulatory compliance and incident reporting across the trading team.
  • Engage positively with counterparties to foster collaborative relationships.
  • Support and develop the capabilities of the team.
  • Collaborate with the wider Generation and Trading team to assess potential investment opportunities from a Prompt perspective.
  • Lead, support and champion ESB values through open communication, teamwork and innovation.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of electricity and gas markets and related commodities.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk management in a trading environment.
  • Proven commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills at peer and senior levels.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team; capable of motivating others to deliver objectives.
  • Strong numeric and analytical background with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with ability to build positive relationships across teams.
Qualifications
  • 3rd level qualification in Business, Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience.

Salary

€69,000 - €81,000 per annum.
