Overview

Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting for a Social Care Worker. This position requires a high degree of understanding and commitment to the residents and to Camphill Communities of Ireland, with the welfare and wellbeing of residents as the prime consideration. Confidentiality regarding residents and staff is essential. The role supports people with intellectual disabilities to live and participate in the community, working within the ethos of CCoI.

The Social Care Worker must be highly responsible and reliable, competent in household management, and capable of creating and maintaining a homely and supportive environment. The role requires maturity to resolve conflicts and empower people with diverse views. It is flexible in service provision, with the ability to lead and work as part of a team, and to reflect the ethos and vision of CCoI in day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities
  1. Advocacy & Rights
    • Respect each person who uses the services as an equal citizen.
    • Uphold and respect the human, legal and constitutional rights of each person, recognizing their individuality and equality, and empowering them to grow toward autonomy.
    • Facilitate, encourage and develop the choice and decision-making skills of people who use the services.
    • Facilitate, encourage and develop self-advocacy and opportunities for involvement in advocacy for people who use services.
    • Enable individuals to pursue and maintain their hobbies and interests.
    • Foster self-help and social skills to achieve the greatest degree of autonomy.
    • Facilitate active participation and community integration through generic community facilities.
  2. Person Centred Support for Living
    • Ensure a person-centred approach to service delivery.
    • Support individuals with aspects of person-centred plans, including occupation and leisure activities, communication, behaviour support, independent living skills, social integration, personal care, and personal development.
    • Act as a Key Worker for specific individuals.
    • Lead in developing and implementing person-centred plans in consultation with the individual and participate in residents' reviews as required.
    • Coordinate medical appointments and ensure healthy and nutritious diets are offered with individual choice in mind.
    • Develop and implement appropriate training, leisure, social, and personal activities for individuals.
    • Facilitate participation in the community through generic facilities.
    • Ensure behaviour support plans from the Multidisciplinary Team are carried out and adhered to.
    • Foster self-help and social skills to maximise autonomy.
    • Support personal hygiene and appearance standards, including participation in personalised hygiene programmes where needed.
    • Provide physical and personal care supports, including moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility, communication, dressing, bathing, toileting, and eating assistance.
    • Facilitate participation in recreational and leisure activities.
    • Coordinate house-to-work transitions with relevant workshops as needed.
    • Contribute to social and recreational activities and liaise with Day Services Coordinator.
    • Achieve competency in driving assigned transport and participate in transport duties as required.
    • Encourage full participation in the home while maintaining agreed housing standards and providing person-centred support.
    • Encourage prudent management of personal finances in line with the Residents Finance Policy.
    • Promote participation in meal preparation and cooking as required.
    • Support religious and pastoral needs of individuals.
    • Administer prescribed medications and maintain related records per policy.
    • Assist in day-to-day running of the household with a person-centred, value-based approach.
    • Ensure buildings are well maintained and raise issues with the Shift Lead or Person in Charge as needed.
    • Oversee personal clothing care and regular laundering of household items and bed linen.
  3. Management and Leadership
    • Ensure compliance with legislative, CCoI policies, and regulatory requirements (Health & Safety Act and HIQA standards) through monitoring, inspection and audit.
    • Keep up-to-date records for individuals in the CCoI records management system.
    • Ensure accurate reporting of reports, timesheets and financial statements; maintain complete records for each person (needs assessments, risk assessments, incidents, notes, plans, medication management, and finances).
    • Report concerns promptly to the PIC; support the physical and emotional wellbeing of individuals.
    • Coordinate house staffing to ensure adequate coverage and supervise induction and training of staff and volunteers.
    • Contribute to a team that provides consistent, quality support for vulnerable adults.
    • Adhere to CCoI policies, procedures and codes of practice; utilize transport services as needed; monitor attendance of students when applicable.
  4. Money and Budgets
    • Account for petty cash and personal monies in line with policies.
    • Maintain petty cash float and balance accounts.
    • Ensure goods and services are used appropriately and recorded.
    • Assist in budgeting with the Shift Lead.
    • Manage house accounts and balance records; submit end-of-month financials to the services office.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Applicants must:

  • Hold a minimum of Level 7 on the QQI Framework – BA in Social Care Studies or equivalent qualification in health or social care.
  • Be CORU registered or provide proof of application in progress.
  • Have 1 year of experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Have an understanding of current policy and developments at national and sectoral level in relation to social care within disability services.
  • Be able to follow, evaluate and contribute to plans and methods to meet ongoing needs of individuals supported.
  • Have effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Possess Proficient IT skills relevant to the role (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
  • Hold a full driver's licence and have access to a car (essential).

Details of the Role

Salary Scale: €36,379 - €52,445 per annum (based on a 40 hour week)

Location: Dunshane, Brannockstown, Naas, Co. Kildare, W91 XV 5T

Duration: Full-time, 40 hours per week
