The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs Nuclear Cardiology studies, which require theoretical insight and experience. Exercises complex skill, judgment, and knowledge of the principles and methods of Nuclear Cardiology, including SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET/CT. Provides a number of tasks in the areas of patient care, technical skills, and documentation. Practices radiation safety measures and rules when working in the laboratory to reduce radiation exposure and help prevent radiation contamination. When caring for patients, explains the procedures to the patient and ensures patient comfort and safety during and after the exam. Evaluates and addresses patient's needs and knows how to obtain medical assistance if needed. Acquires and processes images, performs quality control on cameras and dose calibrator, and maintains the radiopharmacy. Responsible for recording and documenting patient studies on the daily log and on the patient schedule board. Archives patient studies, documents all quality control results according to laboratory guidelines, and orders radiopharmaceuticals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
  • Performs nuclear cardiology imaging in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and policies, values, and mission of the organization.
  • Orders, prepares, administers, stores, and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits, and reports scan results.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Ensures proper imaging techniques related to patient's age and ability to understand procedure to ensure image quality is successfully obtained.
  • Reviews patient information and interprets data to confirm appropriate plan and intervention specific for age-related needs and provision of care.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies in the clinical Nuclear Cardiology rooms.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program and 1.5 years of experience as a Nuclear Cardiology Specialist required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • NYS licensure in Nuclear Medicine or a 6-month temporary license when accredited program is passed and new hire is waiting to pass the NMTCB exam and/or the ARRT(N) exam upon hire required
  • Certified as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or registered as a Radiologic Technologist (RT) and certified in Nuclear Medicine (NM) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire required
  • CT certification by NMTCB or ARRT for attenuation correction or diagnostic CT upon hire preferred
  • Nuclear Cardiology Technology certification by NMTCB upon hire preferred
