What You'll Do

In your role, you'll collaborate with different people across a range of skillsets. You'll be joining our dynamic and fast-paced communications team and be the glue that holds our team together, ensuring we have the right processes, efficiencies and ways of working in place, while learning the ropes of an in-house comms team. You will be a key member providing support on a wide variety of business priorities and focus areas for the Corporate Affairs team, as well as coordinating administrative tasks across the team. As an international retailer in 17 markets, no two days are the same and you'll get to work on a wide range of projects. From store openings and exciting new global campaigns to our work in the sustainability and diversity & inclusion spaces – you'll get the chance to make a real difference and play a key role in telling our story to the outside world.

Here's a flavour of your day-to-day:

  • Support on general team administrative, planning and coordinating tasks including managing communications calendar, raising POs, managing budget, planning meetings and agendas and supporting on presentations.
  • Working to support on the day-to-day press office duties including monitoring for media queries, developing first drafts of press materials including press releases and media statements, on a wide range of projects and topics.
  • Ensuring all media statements issued are recorded appropriately on our global press office Tracker, logging all queries and sharing all final press materials with the wider external comms team.
  • Monitoring media, industry and competitor coverage daily, flagging key articles and issues with the External Communications team, spotting media proactive opportunities. Compiling a first draft of the weekly Corporate Affairs newsletter.
  • Acting as a key point of contact and working closely with our Comms teams in markets as well as our PR agencies across markets to coordinate updates, issuing and receiving of materials for global campaign launches or company announcements.
  • Coordinate and update key Primark company messaging documents for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Support Communications teams with Primark's ambitious new store opening programme, working closely with in-market PR agencies and Communications teams to support execution of plans.
  • Supporting Communications teams to implement various global campaigns.
  • Supporting on issues management including keeping crisis management documents up to date, working with Primark's Customer Service/Social Media teams to escalate and respond to issues and customer complaints and to track any potential brand damaging issues. Conducting social listening and monitoring of any live issues that may have reputational impact.

What You'll Bring

  • An interest in communications, media relations and a flair for writing is essential
  • 1-2 years' experience in a fast-paced role, ideally in a Communications /PR agency or an in-house PR/ Communications role but not essential
  • Strong administrative and coordination skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and operate in a reactive environment
  • Excellent creativity and communications skills, including strong writing capabilities, and acute attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work on a team are really important in this role
  • This candidate should be proactive, diplomatic & trustworthy with a flexible approach to work
  • Highly organised with an ability to handle a high volume of work and to prioritise accordingly
  • Advanced IT skills including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint are essential. Ability to use Canva an advantage.
  • Additional language(s) an advantage
