Overview

Regional Mgr - Data Center Engineering - Retrofits and Upgrades - EMEA, Data Center Community

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual access to AWS services. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate across AWS to deliver high safety and security standards while providing scalable capacity at low cost, and you'll experience an inclusive culture that values bold ideas and ownership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a distributed engineering team supporting retrofits and upgrades for AWS Data Centers in the EMEA region.
  • Hire, coach, and develop employees aligned with Amazon Leadership Principles.
  • Manage team and individual performance, including promotions and career growth.
  • Create and improve metrics to drive efficiencies in repeatable work; establish regional team roadmap and resource planning.
  • Provide strategic direction for the region and influence roadmaps of technical or business partner teams.
  • Work with partner teams to implement new and improved processes within the region and propagate globally where necessary.
  • Communicate technical strategy with limited guidance, manage managers and team members with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Identify risks and dependencies to unblock engineers and partner projects; drive timeliness, quality, operational stability, and alignment with customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Establish and share best practices for development, engineering, testing, and operational excellence; build trust with Operations, Commissioning, Construction, and Design teams.
QualificationsBasic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical, mechanical, structural engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years managing a distributed engineering team (experienced manager).
  • Experience leading teams with 6+ direct reports for 4+ years; experience managing other managers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage budgets.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment/design for data centers (e.g., UPS, diesel generators, switchgear, PDUs, VFDs, ATS, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAHs, air economizers).
  • Ability to develop solutions and execute plans on complex projects; experience owning fast-track design/build and multiple significant upgrade projects.
