About the Role: 

Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) is currently seeking an Education, Coaching & Training Manager to join the organisation on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be required to manage all department activities, actively engage with all relevant industry stakeholders, oversee a calendar of educational events, and develop innovative educational syllabi to support new and existing programmes.

About HSI:

HSI is recognised as the National Governing Body for the Irish Sport Horse sector. HSI unites equestrian sport and sport horse breeding under one governing body and is responsible for devising and implementing strategies for the development and promotion of an internationally competitive Irish equestrian industry, covering high-performance sport, breeding and production, coaching and education, sport and recreation. HSI’s funding partners are the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), Sport Ireland, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Sport Northern Ireland.

Job Purpose

The Education, Coaching & Training Manager will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing innovative education programs and coaching strategies that enhance the capabilities of our clients and coaches. This role is central to our strategic mission of promoting excellence and progression within the Irish equestrian community, particularly amidst the challenges of evolving global equestrian standards and practices.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coaching and Education Programmes
  • To oversee the delivery of the HSI Coaching Programmes (Levels 1, 2 & 3), with curriculum reviews and enhancements as required.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of comprehensive education syllabi and training programs, to support athletes, coaches, and other stakeholders within the equestrian community.
  • Design and implement Education initiatives such as Continuous Professional development and Coaching Conferences/ workshops/ training, aimed at enhancing coaching methodologies and athlete performance.
  • Oversee the team of Coach Developers, Assessors, and staff to deliver on various projects undertaken by the department to ensure they are achieved on time and within budgets outlined.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies in training and coaching.
  • Monitor and manage costs for the department’s annual budget and control of PO’s and expenditure within these budgets through the year.
  • Coordinate a calendar of educational events for Coaching and Education programs.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including industry experts, educational institutions, and other sporting bodies to ensure their inclusion, participation, and engagement.
  • Evaluate and continually improve existing educational frameworks and certification processes in line with national and international best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all governance and safety regulations in the execution of programs and activities and assist with FOI Procedure and queries in respect of Coaching and Education matters.
  • Support with the preparation of press releases and publications concerning Coaching and Education matters.

General Management

  • Lead and manage the coaching and education team, setting clear goals and standards of performance.
  • Contribute as part of the wider operational management team of HSI as required.
  • Represent the organisation and department at seminars, presentations and give lectures as requested to third level students.

Other

  • Other reasonable duties as may be required within overall competence and skill.

Educational Qualifications/Education 

  • At least 5 years’ experience at senior level ideally in the Sport Horse or relevant sport training environment.
  • Excellent research, written communication, planning and operational delivery track record.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Education, Equine, Animal Science, or a related field is essential; Master’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Sport Horse sector required.
  • Coaching certification in equestrian sports is highly desirable, but not essential.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Extensive employment experience in a related area with relevant past performance/experience.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are essential; capable of working with a variety of stakeholders from grassroots to elite level.
  • Innovative and strategic thinker with a proven track record of developing effective educational and training programs.
  • Deep understanding of the challenges faced by the equestrian community and the ability to develop solutions to meet these challenges.
  • Proven ability to project mange, strong attention to detail and ability to work on their own initiative to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Good knowledge of studbook policy, regulatory requirements, and equine industry terminology and activities.
  • Proficient in IT, including Microsoft Office, Publishing, and familiarity with using a CRM system will be an advantage.
  • Clean Driving License and a willingness to work flexible hours as required.
