Dublin, Ireland finmid Full time

About finmid

At finmid, we envision a future where access to capital for SMEs becomes seamless and deeply integrated into the software platforms that businesses are run on. We build the infrastructure that enables platforms to transform how financing is accessed and distributed, allowing businesses to thrive without friction, barriers, or interruptions. We believe the key to solving capital access for SMEs lies in connecting the most effective sources of funding and leveraging data to minimize the cost of capital, with the most effective distribution channels while providing a 10x better UX than other financial institutions.

As we expand our reach across Europe, we are establishing a team in Ireland. This strategic move integrates the technological strength of our parent company with local expertise to deliver exceptional, compliant, and innovative financing solutions. Our mission remains clear: to bridge the gap between demand and supply of capital with a foundation built on transparency, trust, and transformative financial services.

About the opportunity

We are looking for a Risk Manager to build our risk management function in Ireland for the newly established subsidiary. This role is vital to our operations, ensuring we meet the highest standards of risk governance while supporting business growth. As part of the subsidiary’s senior leadership team, you will report directly to the Head of Risk and work very closely with our risk management team in our Berlin office. You will be entrusted with shaping our risk management strategy within the context of our new initiative and ensure alignment with Irish and European financial regulations and frameworks.

In this role, you will:

- Coordinate with the risk team in Berlin to develop and implement scalable methods and frameworks to identify, measure, and control end-to-end risks across the user lifecycle. This will involve identifying and helping build crucial risk management systems including in-product and back-end controls, use of third-party risk assessment tools, and implementation of rule-based and model-based detection systems that align with the company's objectives and regulatory requirements.

- Monitor and assess risks through a comprehensive overview of credit, operational, and IT infrastructure, ensuring mitigation strategies are in place.

- Lead compliance initiatives, ensuring all operations and processes adhere to Central Bank of Ireland standards and other relevant regulatory guidelines.

- Together with the risk team in Berlin prepare and present risk analysis reports to senior management and other stakeholders at finmid group, and regulators.

- Develop and implement business continuity and incident response plans to address operational risks effectively.

What you need to be successful (requirements):

- Extensive Risk Management Experience: A solid track record in risk management within high-growth technology, financial services, or fintech sectors.

- Expertise in Risk Frameworks and Modeling: Comprehensive knowledge of risk modeling, policy design, and reporting, including defining risk appetite and limits, developing PD/LGD/EAD models, and monitoring credit risk metrics.

- Educational and Professional Credentials: A master’s degree in finance, risk management, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as FRM or CFA are highly desirable.

- Strategic and Operational Expertise: Proven ability to design and implement risk management models, address operational vulnerabilities, and effectively handle conflicts of interest.

- Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions, make sound decisions, and lead cross-departmental teams.

- Regulatory Knowledge: Exceptional understanding of Irish and European financial regulations (e.g., PSD2, ECSPR), with the ability to ensure compliance while fostering business growth.

- Advanced Communication Skills: Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights, tailored to diverse audiences. Adept at crafting clear, concise narratives from quantitative analyses, supported by strong verbal and written communication abilities.

- Regulatory Agility: Capacity to navigate and adapt to complex regulatory landscapes while driving strategic initiatives and maintaining compliance.

- Balanced Vision: Skilled at aligning immediate business needs with long-term strategic goals, ensuring sustainable growth.

- Project Execution Excellence: Proven ability to manage and execute complex projects independently, delivering on expectations within challenging timelines.

- Technical Skills: Experience with SQL or a willingness to learn is a strong advantage, supporting data-driven decision-making and risk analysis.

Benefits:

- Though generally we see ourselves as “distributed first”, this role is based out of Ireland where you can work remote or on-site.

- We are flexible and cover whatever you need to be as productive as possible.

- Home office stipend.

- 30 days time off.

- Meaningful equity.

- Open-minded and transparent culture that includes regular get together meetings (e.g. All Hands, Brown Bag Lunch, Offsites)

We're looking for people with passion, grit and integrity. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. We welcome diverse perspectives and people who think out of the box and aren't afraid to challenge assumptions. Join us.
